Tim - Your point is unargueable about profits from the test kit and producers ultimately paying. And I will also support your views on the need to test for something that is not even proven beyond a doubt to be a problem in the first place.
However - the rancher is paying now by way of a controlled captive oversupply of cull and to a point fed cattle. This controlled oversupply could (and I stress the word could) be changed if testing for export marketing purposes were allowed. Any thoughts? Just continue to allow excessive profits roll into the pockets of those who harvest our cull cattle in Canada, or let Prusiner get rich? Not much of a choice eh?
