Buckwheat Is "Grandstanding"

His list of 23 Executive Orders pertaining to gun control is one of the most "Political" moves in history in that they won't really help, but makes the people think they will.

Plus, they're going to be a huge invasion of privacy for law abiding citizens.

According to a background briefer provided by the White House, President Barack Obama is asking doctors to help deal with guns. Here's the relevant passage:

PRESERVE THE RIGHTS OF HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS TO PROTECT THEIR PATIENTS AND COMMUNITIES FROM GUN VIOLENCE: We should never ask doctors and other health care providers to turn a blind eye to the risks posed by guns in the wrong hands.

 Clarify that no federal law prevents health care providers from warning law enforcement authorities about threats of violence: Doctors and other mental health professionals play an important role in protecting the safety of their patients and the broader community by reporting direct and credible threats of violence to the authorities. But there is public confusion about whether federal law prohibits such reports about threats of violence. The Department of Health and Human Services is issuing a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits these reports in any way.

 Protect the rights of health care providers to talk to their patients about gun safety: Doctors and other health care providers also need to be able to ask about firearms in their patients’ homes and safe storage of those firearms, especially if their patients show signs of certain mental illnesses or if they have a young child or mentally ill family member at home. Some have incorrectly claimed that language in the Affordable Care Act prohibits doctors from asking their patients about guns and gun safety. Medical groups also continue to fight against state laws attempting to ban doctors from asking these questions. The Administration will issue guidance clarifying that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit or otherwise regulate communication between doctors and patients, including about firearms.

6. "Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers."

8. "Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission)."

9. "Issue a presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations."

10. "Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement."

20. "Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover."

21. "Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges."

22. "Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations."

23. "Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health."

Yep about what I figured-- all feel good stuff for the liberals- but really isn't going to affect things much-- and a year or two down the line the Bureaucrats will have forgot it all....

I thought #7 was interesting
7. "Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign."

Years ago when on the School Board I tried to introduce the NRS's Eddie Eagle Program into the School District- but was met with absolute opposition from the teachers-- and fear of lawsuits from the administration if something did happen because of a child/gun combination....

I am shocked, shocked I tell you that you didn't find something good to say about Obama, or take a shot at Bush.

Perhaps a mental health checkup using the ACA is in your future. :D

"Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers."

correct me if I am wrong,..

currently private sellers do not have to perform a background check..

and many FFL's who facilitate a sale or transfer already must do a background check and file the appropriate paperwork..

so what is this order actually going to do.? change the existing law?

I sold a lot of weapons via the internet. Of course, the buyer was required to provide a signed FFL holder form before I'd ship the weapon. I assume the FFL holder on the receiving end did the background check.

They're going to attempt to make ALL gun transfers subject to a background check.

Yes, even when you sell or give a gun to your son, there will be a background check. Or so they say.

to do so they must change existing law.. similar to how he changed the immigration law..

But it was not listed as one of the 23 meaningless points..

A private seller & the buyer will have to go to a "Licensed" gun store for a background check to be run by the License holder.

Or...........it will be easier to sell a privately owned gun to the FFL holder direct for him to resell.

Those Licensed might accept it freely without hesitation because the fee per transaction will boost their income numbers.

If every sale/transaction goes through an FFL licensee, all the transfer data will be accessible to the ATF.

It's a means of total "Registration"in the long haul. In other words, they will know where every gun is except the ones held by criminals that were stolen, etc.

But if one guy starts reporting hundreds of guns stolen daily- or if hundreds of reported stolen guns show up in the bad guys hands-- law enforcement will be able to quickly figure out "who" is the straw buyers that are providing illegals with them-- or smuggling into Mexico....

And as law enforcement is noting- it will be almost impossible to enforce for all the guns already in circulation....

I thought you "lefties" approved of such operations. You sure as heck haven't said too much negativee about Barry's supplying to the cartels.

I don't know if "lefties" approve of it or not-- but I definitely approve in using undercover and sting operations that take crooks off the streets...And like I said several times before- this would not be the first of these operations I have seen go awry- as all the best laid plans often don't jell...

How many of "these operations" have you seen? Shipping weapons across the borders like this is against international law.
