Bull Bats

I saw my first pair of Bull Bats (Night Hawks) this evening after dark.
That's a good sign that Spring is in full swing and Summer's not far off.

The Flight of the BullBat

You can always tell that Summer’s drawin’ nigh
when the night breeze carries the Bullbat’s cry.
To the moan that he makes as he swoops so near
“What the h_ _ _ was that !?”, says the untrained ear.
For all you moths and skeeters, it’s a sad affair,
you’ll be fertilizer soon, so enjoy the air.
Go ahead and flee; betcha don’t get far,
you’ve been triangulated by the bird’s SONAR.
I wouldn’t wanna’ be a bug consigned to the fate
of bein’ on the Night Hawk’s dinner plate…
swallowed up to disappear in the gaping maw
of the last bug-raptor that I ever saw.
(by me a few years ago.)
Too much time alone, maybe.
