Great question! I can hardly wait to read all the answers.........

The youngest bull I ever heard of was about a year old........but it's been a while since I heard that, so I could be mistaken.......hence the "about" part of the statement.

He belonged to some neighbors who were going to sell him as a bull, so put him in with the weaner calves......about 9 months later.........whoops!

He was the only "bull" in the vacinity, and a lot of the calves had his markings, etc. so they decided it must have been him.......

Some breeds of cattle mature faster than others. Nutrition also plays a big factor.

I'll wait on more qualified responses. I don't have any oopses to fall back on for reference.

I got 23 calves off a 8 month old red poll cross that we were going to cut for a gomer-the little son of a gun nailed our biggest purebred cow as his first conquest lol. A rule of thumb is the more sorry and poor the bull the more fertile he will be. One fall in a feedlot where I worked they had a whole bunch of heifers calve off a poorly burdizzoed steer lol. There was some colorful language over that deal. As for heifers we've had a few heifers get bred at 4-5 months over the years.

I calved out a heifer at 14 months of age once... I had a few choice words for the guy we got her from. I knew she was pregant though when was when she was 6 months along I decided on a lark to have her pregged while I was doing some others, thought it wold be good practice with the ultrasound to look around...

The earliest Ihad a bull go was at 7.5 months.. I had to laugh...

NR, that's about true............

We figured our heifer, Sweet Thang, that died calving in March, was about 7 months old when the ole Hereford nailed her.... ....she wasn't quite 15 months old when she tried to calve that big baby. Wish I coulda saved her and it both, instead of losing them both. :(

We never dreamed that she was old enough to be bred.......:(

When we were supplying bulls to the tribal reserves in Zimbabwe, we had several varified cases of 7 month bulls breeding, hiefers in these herds were certainly no older when bred. I wean intact bulls at 5 months due to the early matuity in these cattle.
