Bull Pics

Here's some pictures I got the chance to get posted.

This is a bull we bought Saturday. He will be used on my registered cows and the commercial heifers for a clean up bull. His sire is a grandson of 1680 and an N Bar Eplosion cow. His dam is a Rainmaker 814Z daughter out of a Right Time dam. He is a total outcross for us, which is the best part. He is also calving ease with good WW and YW. He is way too fat, but should get into shape to breed this summer. He has a good top and a good muscle pattern, under all the fat, my gosh!! He'll be two the end of March.

This is a coming two year old bull we used last year on the cows. His sire is a son of Allaince 6595 out of an EXT cow. His dam is by 4C6 Ambush out of a Focus son. I really like this bull, it would be nice to know which calves are going to be by him.

These next two bulls are two's going on three. They throw real small calves that grow out well. I wish they were a bit bigger for their age though. These are sons of Focus, which I am not huge fan of. The are both out of dams by Venture Forward. Thats all the information I have on them as I lost the other stuff I wrote down when we bought them.

Here's some pictures of the brands we run. The first one is what my wife and I use. Second is the one we use on cattle we own with my dad. And the last one is my wife's uncle's brand.

Nice bulls. They look like they'll sire a uniform set of calves. They are pretty uniform. I like the brands too. What's the deal with the sic-em reds running blacks???? Better switch colors or call yourself , sic-em blacks.

Sic 'em reds come from the red & white border collies we run and breed.

Thanks for the comments on the bulls & brands.

I'd like to find out what the rest of you viewers think.

Your new bull looks to be beefy in all the right places. Fat is always a pretty color, but he isn't completely hog fat. He shouldn't fall apart too bad during breeding season. It will be interesting to see how he and your number two bull compare, after next summer's breeding season. Right now it's hard to compare, even though they are the same age, because of the difference in condition.

All of your bulls have plenty of length and conformation, and should sire some very nice calves. They are definitely in their "work clothes" but appear functional, with good dispositions. That is always a great attribute. The four bulls look good to me, and would fit in well on this outfit.

Woops , I didn't realize I was picking on your new bull . I thought there were 5 bulls. The first pic and second pic don't look like the same bull. I like all 4 as well but I think the bulls you've been working will sire better females. Something about them just catches my eye. You're new bull is a dandy though. Did you get any carcass data on him?

Just an observation but I'd get your new bull out on some hard ground-between the mud and his ration he might get a little long in the toe by spring-he's got some cowmakers in his pedigree so he should work great in that dept.

Northern, I was just thinking about that myself. Only problem is that we don't have a place for him, go right now. There is a another large pen next to the one they are in and thought I would open that up for them to get into. We had so much rain and snow and freeze and thaw lately.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I think the new bull looks like a fat hog, but you can see good muscle under all that.

Red Robin, I did not get the ultrasound. I was going to get a hold of the herdsman over at that place and have him fax it to me. Ultrasound in the sale catalog was -.08 IMF +.27 REA -.015 Fat He had a weaning ratio of 107 yeraling ratio 103. Dam's production WR [email protected] 103, YR [email protected] 102

Thanks for all your comments

I comment too, but my comments didn't make the cut!!!!!

That is one nice new bull. Where did you get him?
I also like his pedigree. Wish he was in our pen instead of yours.

Your 6595 bull doesn't look like the 6595's I've seen
I saw 6595 himself at Hawkeye a few years ago and sure did like him.
He is very gentle as well.

The Focus cattle are good calving ease cattle. Can't say
I'm real fond of them other than that. Have to watch the feet on the
Ventures. I don't like the Traveler 722 in that pedigree.
But that's just me.

They look like a BCS 3-4 Mike. How can you tell how much muscle they have?

I'd say that top bull is closer to a 7 or above then a 3 or 4.....About ready to butcher

You must use a different BCS scale than I do. I'd say they are more like a 5-6. No rib showing.

No assatall too.

Faster Horses, we got the new bull from Loomis Cattle Co. He has alot of Hinman and Rollin Rock in his herd. Rollin Rock actually sold some partnership bulls at the sale. What do you mean about the look of the 6595 grandson? You lost me??!!??

I am not going to say these bulls are the thickest bulls you can find, but they're not bad either. I would say they are BCS 4, but they are also haired up and full of hay. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

The first Focus bull is the narrowest of all, the 6595 and the other Focus are pretty thick. Like I said they're not the thickest and on the Focus cattle, that's how they are. I haven't seen alot of super thick Focus cattle, but they definitely have their place in the business.

Thanks for all the comments.
