The lord works in mysterius ways! After we got done ridein yesterday. Me and my daughter went on home and my son, pullin the horse trailer stay there at our friends house where we rode. He said he would put up the horses. I was worry sick about the bull ridein and text him later and told him I'd stand behind him on it. He said he'd talk about it when he got home. Him and his buddy Put a bull rope around a 700 lb steer his buddys daddy had, fattin up in his cow pen. Well, trey got hung up and scraped and stomped and I think it ended his wontin to bull ride. We laughed about it as he showed me his bruses and scraped. Now maybe calf ropein. It means a hi dollar horse. But at least no bulls. Thank you lord!

I don't know if pointing him toward a career as a roper is better or worse!  :???:       KIDDING all you ropers! It's been my experience that about 90% of guys get on one bull and say that's plenty! The other 10% of us get completely hooked til we are forced to quit by injury or age or a mean wife! No offense sweety! :D

it dont always take a high dollar horse for calf ropin. i paid 3500 bucks for my old calf horse and he won 3 state championships. its just in how much time and dedication you want to put into the horse. Good luck in the search, if i find one out this way, i will let you know.

I spent 7 days in the hospital and 6 weeks with a walker and crutches after my rope horse reared over backwards in the box and broke my pelvis in 4 places. None of the rodeo sports are much safer than the next. If your going to play your goin to pay.My kid is in the wanna be bull rider mode now he's 10 were letting try some steers and buying the right gear to try and keep him safe.

i think going to a school for the timed events is just as important as the bulls and the broncs. if going to a school isn't possible, spend some time with someone that knows, not someone who thinks they know. probably some of the worst rodeo wrecks i've seen have been in the calf roping. there are alot of little things a person needs to know and learn that could pay off time and time again. gear, dismounting your horse, getting away from your horse, handling your rope and your slack, among other things. it all takes time and practice, just make sure you have a good teacher.

Better to try it young and find out whether it's your game than get boozed up in college and try getting on. I've probably seen just as many wrecks at either end of the arena. Get a good flack vest, a good helmet, learn how to get off right-a good steer riding school is money well spent. The big debate up here is whether to ride one or two handed. I think you buck off more starting out one handed but you can keep yourself out of trouble better with your free hand. Ty started when he was ten and never has got on one two handed. You can get hurt bad playing just about any sport or you can stand on the sidelines and get hit by a bus-life is all about risks both real and imagined. I get more worried watching barrel racing or kids ripping around on quads then I ever do watching jr. bulls.

It took a feller gettin his neck broke and kilt to wind up my bull ridein. Happened at a jackpot rodeo in a place in south fla called river ranch. My son can sure rope now but ranch ropein and tie down are like night and day. My cusin trains cuttin horses and I can get one that don't work out for a good price. I hook my buddy up with one for 1000 dollars and it made a fine team ropein horse. Like nr said. There's risk in it all but there lots of older ropers still active in the sport, trainin or puttin on clinics. But u never see a grey head tied down to a bull. I almost got on one at 40, with the help of some canadian whiskey that come's in a purple sack. and I figered I could ride a few seconds. But they'd better have the the ambulance runnin whin I hit the ground. Who know what this youngin will do. I have all ideays it will be somethin off a horse. By the way, what do day workers make yalls way? It's 150 a day here.
