Bull Sale Today

Miserable foggy day today- where at times you were lucky to see a couple hundred yards- but the temp did warm up to 20 or so Above..

Went out to the Wittkopp Angus of Circle bull sale at the stockyards and got the pleasure to meet Cedarcreek and his lovely bride.....I had the opportunity to visit with them for awhile before the sale and during the sale- until they got their bulls bought and had to take off in time to get home for a daughters ball game...
Good folks- and sure glad to get the opportunity to meet them...

Sale was pretty good and steady- with 68 bulls offered.....Not sure what the average figured out to be (too lazy to add it up) - but they only had about 2 No Sales- the majority selling around the $2000 mark-- couple as low as $1350- but also a couple selling for $5000...
Nice quiet bunch of bulls- with no problems from any...
After the sale- I stopped at the waterhole- and ran into a couple more from this site I know- and the BS ran deep...

When I look out at these dreary days- and everything white- its just hard to realize that this week is the start of over 2 months of weekly spring bull sales

Went to a forage fed bull sale today in central Alberta-bulls were sold unclipped and averaged close to $3,000. Got some questions answered about some bloodlines for me!

I'm going to be nosey, NR. Were the bloodline questions about current defect carriers? Been reading some posts on Advantage Cattle and just wondered.
You don't have to answer if you'd rather not.

Its nice to meet other members on here. Was an enjoyable visit OT.

The prices were about the same as the Idland Cattle Company sale a week earlier in Glendive. The fog going home was about the same as our trip up there, 30 miles out of Glasgow and it was a bright sunny day. Got up to 27° here.

I am planning on going to TNT Simmental and Red Angus sale today. Its always one of those year highlights for prices. Then tomarrow, if I can swing it, I want to go to the first part of SAV. Should be exciting.

One of the interesting parts of the sale yesterday- was the prices on cull cows- and breds....You could take in old culls and get $600-700 for them and swap them for a young bred that sold for $1,000-1100...Middle aged (6-7 full mouths) and herefords sold for $800...
Neighbors old lump jaw brought $51 cwt- and he was able to pick up a nice 4 year old cow that had a floppy ear from improper eartagging- that had been cut out of a dispersion herd- for $850...Got some other mid aged solid mouths for cheaper...

Since some of the bulls in the sale trace back to a bull the Australian Angus Association says is a known Fawn Calf carrier (Bon View Bando 598 ) we did get a discussion going after the sale about when the AAA will list it- and get a test developed for it- and what repercussions those tests not being developed yet are having on these sales happening now- and those coming up ... But like almost all discussions about cattle genetics- there was little consensus...

I logged on Dylan's puter-I didn't even realize it was under his name. I doubt dylan will kick me out I had to rescue his Chevy yesterday and haul the kill cattle to Duchess. It was quite an adventure getting Sweetums the lead steer in the kill box-he was a long old dude dressed over 1000 pounds. Lost all my animal icons this weak-Sweetums, Prankster and Beastie.
