Looks like the voters of Montana have reaffirmed my faith in them and still put ethics and honesty above partisan politics :D - altho not by the numbers I had hoped :( ...Tester is leading by about 1700 (.43% points) with only one county left to be counted- and I don't think they even have 1700 voters.....But I guess I shouldn't be surprised- I've always known Conrad had his Montana bought political machine for many years- long before he started selling his vote off to the highest bidder worldwide.......
Hopefully now Montana also has a "conservative Democrat" to go to D.C. and at least make an effort at cleaning out that pig sty....

Democrat starts his day by chopping feed for his cattle
By MIKE DENNISON
Gazette State Bureau

GREAT FALLS Jon Tester started Tuesday morning as the farmer he is, chopping feed for his cattle. By Tuesday night, he was looking like he could be Montana’s next U.S. senator.

“I felt in my gut for some time, that if we continued to do what we were doing, going out and talking to people about the issues that are important, that we’d be all right,” he said Tuesday evening from a hotel room in Great Falls, surrounded by a dozen family members chatting, eating and watching election returns on TV.

AP has declared Tester the winner in Montana, but Burns has not yet conceded...Tester's leading by 3,000+ votes and the only County not tallied has been Meagher- with only 900 voters....

I saw Burns will pitch a hissy and demand another recount

Burns will have to pick up 2000 votes in Meagher County (impossible since less than 900 voted) or pick up the tab on the recount on his own...Right now the difference in the vote is 3100- which wouldn't even allow a recount unless they go to court and can prove irregularities....

but the law here says a losing candidate can request a recount at his own expense if the margin is within 1/2 of a percent, which would be a margin off roughly 2,000 votes in the state’s U.S. Senate race. If the margin is less than 1/4 of a percent, the state and the counties will pick up the tab.

Vote all in- All precincts counted...Difference of 2,848 votes- more than .5%, so Burns can't even ask for recount unless he goes to Court and can prove irregularities....

Tester 198,304 49.07%

Burns 195,456 48.37%

Jones (L) 10,324 2.55%

We all know how hard it is to prove something in our courts with these judges on the bench.

Burns silence- and his failure to concede or say anything yet, leads me to believe that there is probably a whole gaggle of Republican Lawyers flying into Billings right now...But proving a difference of 3000 votes is not easy in a state this small....

All the polling stations and electoral processes are probably controlled by republicans in Montana as red as it is. They will have to prove they were incompetent in some manner absent some huge voter fraud. I love it when people have to prove their own incompetency to win the point. It is the funny kind of irony.

apparently montana has a law saying a recount can only be requested if difference is less than 0.5% of votes cast. he's not within that margin by my calculations. would need to be within less than 2000 votes.

OT made the same calculation. He can still have it, as I understand it, if he pays for it. It will be interesting just who is willing to donate to it.

Actually he is so far away he can't even call for one and pay for it- It now would take a court order- and pay for it..... I see where the Secretary of State is saying he was "absolutely confident in the counts so far"....

There is one BIG rancher in MT whom I bet is having a stroke about now with Burns being booted out!!!!

I don't know which of the BIG ranchers in MT you are talking about-- there have been several that had Conrad in their pocket for years....But I know of a few that have gotten ahold of BLM or BIA grazing leases thru under the table subleasing or that have the leases that they have been under the table subleasing for double the money that are really crying in their beer tonite since their Dept of Interior Committee Chairman, that has covered their hineys for years ,ain't gonna be there anymore...

I only hope that this whole mess don't drag in Gayle Norton, as I hear it could, since I always thought she was a straight shooter...

The AP is reporting that Burns has conceded the race...It is done...

The honest folks of Montana have spoken and shown that they still put honesty/ethics/morals above corrupt Pork Barrel politics... :) :)

I just happened to find out from a friend in Big Sandy that Tester's
whole campaign was funded by out-of-state interests.
I found out a lot more too, non of it good.
It's too late so I won't bother to post it here.
What's done is done...

Ball's in their court, let's see how good they can trash our beloved Montana :(

Yes, what's done is done and until something really nasty happens we're just going to have to bite it...

Interesting happenings in the Montana Senate going on...Right now it appears as tho it will be a 25-25 tie for control...But the radio reported that the Democrats are courting Sam Kitzenberg (R) to switch to Democrat or Independent to swing the power... He is well known for not following a strong party line- either with issues or candidates as he opposed cutting school funding and supported both Schweitzer and Tester....

Right now he's in the drivers seat- with both sides offering him plum committee assignments....
