Pres Bush....filed papers a few days BEFORE Jan 20th.....ANYONE who worked for /with his Admin. DOES NOT...EVER....HAVE....to testify to anyone...anywhere about anything!!!

This is a MAJOR CYA move for Bush.

Rove must have him by the shorthairs...BIG TIME.

Bush must be sooo afraid of what history will show...that he's burying history.

Surely this can't be true. How can executive privilege be carried out to this extent. Trying something like this, if it is true, ought to be a crime in and of itself!

It's true. I saw the same report on FOX and on CNN , word for word.

This is the first time in history that this happened. The papers were executed BEFORE he left office.....thus he had the power to do so.

Bush preemptively pardoning at-risk members of his administration, he and his lawyer Fred Fielding (White House Counsel) were concocting one last expansion of executive privilege. Four days before he left office, Mr. Bush authorized Fielding to write letters to Harriet Miers and Karl Rove giving them "absolute immunity" from Congressional inquiry and prosecution. Preemptively. In perpetuity. Absolute and irrevocable.

I'll ck the FOx web site next

Of course it was done before he left office otherwise it would not carry any weight at all. The country has bigger and more important problems to solve, so let's get on with it. Pelosi and Reid better hope Obama et al do the same for them when they get ready to ride off into the sunset with their baggage.

The difference is Obama, does this before they start working for him. he calls it a "Waiver"

Bush got this idea from watching the new President elect, dodge the courts, and refuse to testify!

I agree Sandhusker, what good are courts, if you use your executive position to sidestep them?

National Security??????? why do you think many of these same people will be guarded the rest of their life??

What Bush pulled is a bunch of crap.

You are right about that!

Yep- and if it isn't challenged and Congress and the Courts let it stand- it sets precedent- just like Bush's granting preaction immunity from prosecution to anyone involved in violating by doing illegal wiretaps, torture, and violation of both US law and International Law-- which from now on Obama and every President succeeding them will have the same powers....

This is the reason that long before it was known who would end up as President- Congress set up a bipartisan commission ( one of the co-Chairmen was Bob Dole) to come up with a new set of rules, laws, and possibly even Constitutional Amendments to change the abuses that Bush perpetrated... My understanding is that both Obama and McCain agreed, preelection, whoever won, they would abide by and support those rule changes, because they both knew how close Bush took us to a Dictatorship.....

Think of how many of our country's earlier leaders would be rolling over in their graves right now if they knew this. I don't like tampering with the Constitution but if an amendment is what it takes to keep something like this from happening, I'd be for it.
