I fought bulls barefoot at a rodeo that had a big rain and the gumbo arena was a pond. This was a few years ago before the arena were groomed.

At the Martin rodeo last evening, one of the bull-doggers came down on his steer at the same time that the hazer's horse went to bucking and bucked off the hazer. The horse continued bucking on across the arena. Both men were laying in the dirt just a few feet apart, and for a moment it looked like the steer might land on the hazer as the bull-dogger took the steer down. Two cowboys and one steer all got up and walked away.

My son was sitting with Mike McConaughey. Mike said that at a rodeo back a few years, Shawn Minor won the bareback bronc riding, then won the saddle bronc riding, and was entered up in the team roping with Mike. Mike headed the steer, and as Shawn came in for the heels, his heeling horse went to bucking and bedded Shawn down in the dirt. The announcer allowed that it didn't matter, because Shawn had already proven that he could ride bucking horses.

One of the most spectacular rodeo wrecks that I have witnessed was back in the 'seventies. Scott Hare was one of the pick-up men at a Gordon event, and he was riding a big good-looking paint horse. The first bronc rider came out, and after he made a good qualified ride, Scott swooped in for the rescue. The cowboy got on behind Scott's saddle. The paint "rescue horse" proceeded to pitch a fit, and threw off both of his riders. Scott somersaulted but came back up on his feet, with both bridle reins still in his hands. The other rider picked himself up off of the ground. Scott re-mounted the spotted horse, and rode on across the arena to find another horse that would allow people to ride double.
