I've read in both Time and Newsweek that the majority of insurgents, and the most brutal ones, are foreign radicals (terrorists) who travel to Iraq specifically to engage in war with infidels (us). There is a segment of the insurgent population that is composed of native Iraqis, but they are thought to be fighting primarily for nationalistic and political reasons, which may be resolved through the political process and Iraq's eventual autonomy.

The jihadis, however, have no goal except the annihilation of the U.S., Israel, and ultimately all non-Islamic infidels, and they see Iraq as a good place to start.

If fighting in Iraq isn't "taking the war to the terrorists" then I don't know what is.

You should get your news from the guys on the ground:

"Gen. Abizaid said in late June that about 10 percent of the insurgents are foreign fighters, mostly Saudis and other gulf Arabs. U.S. and Iraqi officials say these foreigners make up the vast majority of the suicide attackers in Iraq. Since 2003, less than 10 percent of the more than 500 suicide attacks have been carried out by Iraqis, according to a defense official." My emphasis. Link below.

If Bush really wanted to take the fight to the terrorist, why not attack Saudi Arabia? Most of the highjackers were Saudi citizens.
There were few, if any, terrorists in Iraq before Bush chose to invade the country. Now they're all over the place. Why? Because it's their best chance to defeat or kill Americans. How have they been able to get into Iraq? Because the Bush Bunch ignored professional military opinions and didn't send enough troops to secure the borders of the country.

The Iraq war is certainly messy - I don't think anyone can disagree there. But the question at this point is, do we have any choice but to make it work?

It seems that a lot of the arguments I hear against the Iraq war may have been valid a few years ago, but have no current practical application. Even if everything were true: we did it for oil, Bush deceived the U.S., Saddam was no threat - we're still there right now, and we have to win. Simply complaining about the president, the war, and the U.S. in general is just an exercise in futility, since an immediate withdrawal of troops is unfeasible and unlikely to help anything.

Yes, we have choices. We can start withdrawing our troops tomorrow and that's what I think should happen. If not tomorrow, when? Bush won't even put out guidelines for what will constitute "completion of the mission." Is it when 100,000 Iraqi troops are trained? Is it when the new constitution is written? Is it when Iraqis have electricity 15 hours a day? Is it when Bush's buddies have the oil supply pipelines up and running? What will this Administration consider a success in Iraq? No one knows. That's why we're in a quagmire there.

With your great insight as to how the war is going, can you name "one" battle or skirmish the US military has lost? , or even show an instance where the terrorists ended up in other then a body bag, if not your use of the word Quagmire sounds to much like hanoi jane at a typicle anti military rally.

I support our troops and believe they are doing a great job and Winning the war one battle at a time....

By the way when are we going to pull out of Germany? Japan? or South Korea? they have met all the critria you set, and we are still there after 50 years...

No army in the world can stand against ours. We lost very few battls in VietNam, but we lost the war. As the General said, "we can't kill them all."

I support our troops, too, and wish they had better leadership than the Bush Bush is providing. Gee, Steve, didn't you know the war is over? George W. Bush strutted aboard the deck of the Lincoln almost two years ago and told us the war was over. Remember the banner "Mission Accomplished." Guess someone just forgot to tell the Iraqis.

By the way when are we going to pull out of Germany? Japan? or South Korea? they have met all the critria you set, and we are still there after 50 years...

Ask the Bush Bunch.

Then why if you can admit that we should have won Nam, did we Pull out, leave hundreds of thousand to be slaughterd and face a decade of ridicule?

I say it was because of the media focus on Hanoi Jane and the likes of you that lost the Vietnam war, and if you had your way we would Pull out , leave hundreds of thousands to be slaughtered again, with US facing another decade of ridicule...

it's not about killing them all, it is about showing them that no matter what tactic they try we will never surrender....if you can't accept that then move to france they can accept defeat just as easily as you do...
