mp.freelance said:I've read in both Time and Newsweek that the majority of insurgents, and the most brutal ones, are foreign radicals (terrorists) who travel to Iraq specifically to engage in war with infidels (us). There is a segment of the insurgent population that is composed of native Iraqis, but they are thought to be fighting primarily for nationalistic and political reasons, which may be resolved through the political process and Iraq's eventual autonomy.
The jihadis, however, have no goal except the annihilation of the U.S., Israel, and ultimately all non-Islamic infidels, and they see Iraq as a good place to start.
If fighting in Iraq isn't "taking the war to the terrorists" then I don't know what is.
You should get your news from the guys on the ground:
"Gen. Abizaid said in late June that about 10 percent of the insurgents are foreign fighters, mostly Saudis and other gulf Arabs. U.S. and Iraqi officials say these foreigners make up the vast majority of the suicide attackers in Iraq. Since 2003, less than 10 percent of the more than 500 suicide attacks have been carried out by Iraqis, according to a defense official." My emphasis. Link below.
If Bush really wanted to take the fight to the terrorist, why not attack Saudi Arabia? Most of the highjackers were Saudi citizens.
There were few, if any, terrorists in Iraq before Bush chose to invade the country. Now they're all over the place. Why? Because it's their best chance to defeat or kill Americans. How have they been able to get into Iraq? Because the Bush Bunch ignored professional military opinions and didn't send enough troops to secure the borders of the country.
