Calgary Stampede

In talking to my friend in Aubrey, Texas about June Holman,
I found out a little background on her.

She trained the horse herself. She couldn't afford to buy
one of his caliber, for one thing.
He is a GREAT horse. When she first started hauling him, she
pulled a 2-horse trailer with an old ambulance and lived in the
ambulance while on the road.

What she has, that horse bought for her, or they earned it together.

Just thought this was interesting and well worth repeating.

Good for June :D
I will cheer for her the next time :D

Heard something interesting-some guys didn't take their best hooks to Calgary-trying to win the new truck in the CPCA didn't want to use their good horses running in the middle of the pack in Calgary.

edited :-> rereading it are you are saying that most of the chuckwagon horses are horses taken off the race tracks as 3 year olds?

Im under the impression that a lot of the wagon horses are bought as three year olds. I dont know what the average age would be for all the guys buying prospects. I know some off the prospects are ones that dont do so well on the track or some of them that are a bit rank with a rider.
I honestly know nothing about Thoroughbreed racing. But im under the impression that some horses can get bared from the track if they have problems loading into the starting gate, ect. A lot of these horses end up pulling wagons.
Im sure a lot of it has to do with the pocketbook of the guy buying prospects. Wagon outfits need a lot of horses. I think Kelly Sutherland has over two hundred horses in Grand Prairie.

Kelly has some horses at Grande Prairie but he certainly doesn't have 200, he has a bunch down at marks place down south, they however do not have 200 weagon horses.

I think all of us agree up here agree Cimmaron Gerke got jobbed on Sunday-I bet 86.5 is the lowest anybody has scored on 'Grated Coconut'. You had to love june holman coming within a whisker of winning a 100,000 at 63 years old but was nice to see Jolene Seitz with the bareels for Calgary. In the long go Sunday Billy Etbauer, Dan Mortenson and Glenn O'Neill all bucked off-kind of tells you the quality of Saddle Broncs up here. Mo Forbes didn't even warm up 'Cool Alley' in the 100,000 dollar round. I think we'll see alot more rodeos going to the Calgary tournament format-there were guys from the big U'S shows up checking it out. Sure alot easier on the cowboys and great for the fans-tough on the next tier of rodeo hands though. Was pretty cool watching Cody Wright's family up on stage with him when he got his cheque-soime future bronc riders coming up there I bet.

I totally agree with you on the Ride with Cimmaron Gerke, I love to see the Canadian's win but honestly i think that it should have been either CImmaron or Will to will hte 100,000. Don't get me wrong Davey Had a awsome ride, but it wasn't rank, it was pretty, sure Davey makes those horses look good but some horses are just pain ol rank and you can't make them look pretty, and well rodeo isn't a pagent so who cares if its pretty or not.
