Big Pack baler built by Krone on tour. Pretty impressive rig. Baled some hay at 15.5 mph. Corners were scary.

Looks warm there now. The cattle don't seem to mind and the calves are thriving. What make is the tractor? For the amount of hay I put up that baler would hold a lifetime supply of twine. At 15 mph I wouldn't have too many days to keep it running. How many cuts do you expect on a normal year?

Most of us see cattle all the time, but it's not everyday you see the 8th wonder of the world?

What's the rig on the front of the tractor?

I used to have a couple smaller Krone round balers, dandy balers but a little slow to tie. :)

Looks to me like a bale spear.

H, some ranchers put up hay so a hay putter upper is still a legitimate rancher topic of conversation. Jeff also thought so.

Your calves are doing well Jeff.

At 15 mph that rig would be destroyed before it completed the first round on these meadows.

If it's a spear it must be on a 3 pth. :?

I'm going to guess its a scale for weighing the bales. It appears as though it may be able to move up and down a bit, and there is a blue looking thing that might be a scale head in the middle of the apparatus...

It is damn warm here, was about 100 yesterday. We had the coldest driest Spring I have ever seen. 1st cutting was a joke. Yields were way down. Only saving grace was the quality was excellent. Alfalfa tested 56% TDN or above. Dairy hay when dairies in the valley are struggling too. Oh well, there is 2 more cuttings to put up, and next year too.

The Krone Company Big Bale Tour is pretty neat. The German engineering is something to behold with that baler. It is very quiet and well built. The JCB tractor is amazing too. 40 mph down the road and suspension like a truck on it. With that outfit parked next to a Hesston Baler and Case IH tractor it was like looking at a Chevy next to a Mercedes.

I am pretty proud of my calves being that they are out of purchased cows. I have bought cows before and couldn't wait till the next calf crop because of the poor quality.
