Last night we had the first calf.

The feet have emerged.

He just slid out of the spa. To me he looked like E.T.

Mittens watches all the excitement.

She had it all on her own. Dad didn't go in to help her, because she had it covered. Now that he is dried off and fluffed up, he looks like a fuzz ball. We bedded the barn with some straw to night and he was running around the pen trying to kick up his heels. He is happy and healthy. We are hoping that is a good start to another calving season.

I'd say that's one of them mystical Shorthorn calves that you here about, but see very little of. Like an albino deer. :p

Aaron... lookking at again I think you are right.. I had a shortie cross cow (Shortie, angus, Simmi, Maine) that looked a bit like that.. She was HUGE.. sold her as an open this year, 1660... brought a pretty penny, lol...

You guys are right. He is shorthorn. The reason he looked like a holstein is because he was still slimy when I took the picture. He is really roan. Just like his daddy. We were hoping for a white heifer like we got last year, but we didn't.

Aaron, the reason we have the white shorties is becasue we had a white bull about 6 years back and the genetics are still there. We have 3 white cows, and 2 heifers. The heifers will get put in the herd next year. To make it possible to get more of them. We are one of two places in the county that have white shorthorns.
