Calving heifers

My due date on my AI'ed heifers is tomorrow and I have 78 out of 85 calved out. Gotta love those short gestation bulls. I helped one the other day but pulled him by hand out in the pasture. No frozen ears either. I suppose I'll have trouble with every one from here on out since I've had such good luck so far.

I have heard that a ranch north of us had 14 sets of twins!!! Wouldn't that be something?? :D

Good for you Big Swede. No amount of luck makes up for good management. I had an awesome hf year as well. Enjoy the rest of the calving season. I guess then you had time to watch Augusta being as the hfs were coming on their own.

We have had ten sets of twins this spring, and all twenty calves are still alive and kicking. We have never had this many twins before. Fortunately they all came along just right to find a new momma, so none of the mothers of the twins are raising both calves.

i could use a couple sets of twins right about now. didn't have a very good day around here yesterday. last year i had 12 sets of twins, only one so far this year out of a heifer.

Those kind of days have a way of happening. :? At least the rain is more than making up for it. :)

Debbie talked to her friend that lives a ways north of us again this morning. They now have 25 sets of twins, 14 sets the cow is raising both.

We have had one set this year and the options are getting fewer. We have 12 heifers left, on the last 100 cows.

Katrina, when was your due date? Not yours, your cows. :p

An outfit in ND was all over the news this past weekend, they calve out 500 head, and so far out of 300 they've had 50 sets of twins! Must be the water.

No twins here, they're okay if you need a calf but I'd just as soon have one good one. Yes per I had lots of time to watch the Masters. Got the itch myself but will have to wait till the crops are in the ground.

By using short gestation bulls on Hfrs from short gestation bulls could you not eventually shorten the gestation period on your cows down to about 6 months?

Keep doing it and you could calve twice a year. :D
