I felt insulted when Tam left the fine state of New Jersey off her list..
but it made me wonder.. can any liberal state pay it's own way,, let alone a liberal county or worse a liberal city?

Steve said:tam said:It is funny how the Dems scream about higher taxes is GOOOODDDD but when they raise taxes people move to where the taxes are lower which results in a small tax base. All one has to do to see the Dems policies of tax and spend don't work is look at California and New York.
you forgot the mess New Jersey is in,.. and even with a new Governor who is trying to cut at the state level,, we are in deep trouble..
(well we aren't down in our little conservative county,.. we actually have a surplus at the county level and most of the towns in our county are in fair shape, )
but not liberal Camden.. a city with possibly the worst crime in the country.. cuts it fire fighters by half this week.. and is cutting it's police force by 44%
but don't worry the mayors' staff jobs are safe..
Camden had the highest crime rate in the U.S.
The city was the nation's second-most dangerous based on 2009 data, according to CQ Press, which compiles such rankings. Camden ranked first the previous two years.
Camden public schools spend $17,000 per student per year
"FOP coming to the the table at the 11th hour with their final contract offer of a 6.5% pay increase across the board."
The city collects only $21 million in local taxes on a $138 million budget. The state provides much of the remainder, but the city still falls $26.5 million short.
"The real problem here is that Camden can't support itself on ANY level."
to put the tax rates in perspective.. they really can't raise taxes much more..
The General Tax Rate is a multiplier for use in determining the amount of tax levied upon each property. It is expressed as $1 per $100 of taxable assessed value.
Camden tax rate is 4.543
in the county where I live, Wildwood has the highest rate in our county @ 1.184,... with well over half the towns in our county having a tax rate under 1.0
so we as state tax payers fund the $143.5 million hole in their $138 million dollar budget.. due to their inability to help them selves.
and this doesn't count all the money invested in past in the Camden waterfront, and all the other wasted attempts to save the rat hole..
