Can liberals support them selves???

I felt insulted when Tam left the fine state of New Jersey off her list..

but it made me wonder.. can any liberal state pay it's own way,, let alone a liberal county or worse a liberal city?

It is funny how the Dems scream about higher taxes is GOOOODDDD but when they raise taxes people move to where the taxes are lower which results in a small tax base. All one has to do to see the Dems policies of tax and spend don't work is look at California and New York.

you forgot the mess New Jersey is in,.. and even with a new Governor who is trying to cut at the state level,, we are in deep trouble..

(well we aren't down in our little conservative county,.. we actually have a surplus at the county level and most of the towns in our county are in fair shape, )

but not liberal Camden.. a city with possibly the worst crime in the country.. cuts it fire fighters by half this week.. and is cutting it's police force by 44%
but don't worry the mayors' staff jobs are safe..
Camden had the highest crime rate in the U.S.
The city was the nation's second-most dangerous based on 2009 data, according to CQ Press, which compiles such rankings. Camden ranked first the previous two years.

Camden public schools spend $17,000 per student per year

"FOP coming to the the table at the 11th hour with their final contract offer of a 6.5% pay increase across the board."

The city collects only $21 million in local taxes on a $138 million budget. The state provides much of the remainder, but the city still falls $26.5 million short.

"The real problem here is that Camden can't support itself on ANY level."

to put the tax rates in perspective.. they really can't raise taxes much more..
The General Tax Rate is a multiplier for use in determining the amount of tax levied upon each property. It is expressed as $1 per $100 of taxable assessed value.
Camden tax rate is 4.543

in the county where I live, Wildwood has the highest rate in our county @ 1.184,... with well over half the towns in our county having a tax rate under 1.0

so we as state tax payers fund the $143.5 million hole in their $138 million dollar budget.. due to their inability to help them selves.

and this doesn't count all the money invested in past in the Camden waterfront, and all the other wasted attempts to save the rat hole..

You know the story and you know the names: states like Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and California are supposed to be in huge financial trouble thanks to bloated governments, business-unfriendly regulations, and strong public sector unions.

the reality is the liberal states have wealthy districts carrying poor districts.. and now the policy may be taking the whole state under..

in the fifties and sixties families moved out of the cities as income improved and the suburbs became more attractive to raising a family.
(heck you could get twice the land and a larger house for much less then in the city.. and the taxes were lower)

in the seventies and eighties, crime added to the flight..

somewhere in the nineties, some cities were able to get a handle on the crime (New York City being a good example), and a booming new economy started growing, many professionals moved back to those cities, while the rest languished,

poorest
1. Detroit, Michigan 36.4
2. Cleveland, Ohio 35.0
3. Buffalo, New York 28.8
4. Milwaukee, Wisconsin 27.0
5. Saint Louis, Missouri 26.7
6. Miami, Florida 26.5
7. Memphis, Tennessee 26.2
8. Cincinnati, Ohio 25.7
9. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 25.0
10. Newark, New Jersey 23.9

most crime.

1 Camden, NJ
2 Detroit, MI
3 Atlanta, GA
4 St. Louis, MO
5 Gary, IN
6 Washington, DC
7 Hartford, CT
8 New Orleans, LA
9 Richmond, VA
10.Birmingham, AL

what do all the failing cities have in common? poverty... crime,. minorities,.. ?

or is it liberal policies that fail to tackle the tough problems..

NONE
Sure looks like a lot of overlap in the twenty five on all the, is it a coincidence?
I think it is just a bit more then a coincidence that the most liberal cities are also the ones with the highest poverty, and crime rates?

Did I miss anything? is it so obviously staring the liberals in their faces and they can't see it, but they are the problem..

Didn't someone say they wanted to debate important issues?

isn't the ability to support oneself an important issue for a city, county state? nation? isn't crime an important issue? Poverty?
