No one ever replied to my complaint that guns were TOO easy to get in the U.S. both for criminals and for the emotionally unstable. I gave an example - a young nephew with substance abuse problems, a history of anger management (police called in to remove him), and easy ability to obtain 3 handguns which he tells me he uses to relieve stress at target practice sites.

I am uncomfortable with him having guns and wonder at a system that makes it so easy for someone with this kind of history to buy multiple guns. To be fair, juvenilles have their records sealed but he's been over 18 now for several years.

I love this kid and god forbid he should hurt himself or someone else.

reader- Have you contacted the ATF on this person? If he has an arrest involving family or domestic violence or assault (even Disorderly Conduct in a situation involving a family member) since he turned 18 he has committed a crime in buying a gun...He would have had to committ fraud on the ATF form ( unless he just bought the gun from another private citizen) which asks the drug , mental, and the domestic assault question...

I know there is a large problem with the mental illness, because so many of these records are sealed - Montana is a state that seals all mental records-- Mental court proceedings and most juvenile convictions do not show up with the standard record check--But authorities can get them opened and can subpeona medical records and doctors if they have a reason to look...But they many times need the tip to show them where to go....... You may be doing the family a favor by making the call....

Many of the false filings for purchase of a firearm are not found with the record check but from info developed later.....

Questions to be answered on ATF Form 4473 by purchaser of a gun:

a. are you the actual buyer of the firearm indicated on this form? If you answered "no" to this question the dealer cannot transfer this firearm to you.

b.Are you under indictment or information in any court for a crime for which the judge could imprison you for more than one year? An information is a formal accusation of a crime by a prosecuting attorney

c.Have you been convicted in any court of a crime for which the judge could have imprisoned you for more than one year, even if the judge actually gave you a shorter sentence?

d.Are you a fugitive from justice?

e.Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana, or any depressant, stimulant, or narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?

f.Have you ever been adjudicated mentally defective or have you been commited to a mental institution?

g. Have you been discharged from the armed forces under dishonorable conditions?

h.Are you an alien illegally in the U.S.?

i.Have you renounced you U.S. citizenship?

j.Are you subject to a court order restraining you from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of such a partner?

k. Have you been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence? See definition.

l.Are you a citizen of the U.S?

Reader, I hope this does you some good. I'll have you know I typed every bit of this out!

First and last questions must be answered "YES".

All the others must be answered "NO".

Me neither......yet! But I will if the argument escalates to where my family is in danger of being killed.

My guns are used to dispatch wounded and old animals. And pests. And as a last resort, to protect someones life. Never for robbery or anything less.

I don't think it would bother me one bit to shoot a sorry p.o.s. that was trying to take what I work for. Even if he wasn't threatening me. If you pass up a chance to shoot a thief, it's the same thing as condoning stealing and giving them an open season on your neighbors. Now, that would bother me.

So, I don't think it would bother me to kill him. But there's one thing for sure...he'll never know if it bothered me or not.

I Agree with you a 100% on this.

Good to hear! I always figured you to be a reasonable man! Well.......at least reasonable for someone who runs cattle in a hardwood swamp! And tries to cut wood in a place better suited for a boat than a tractor!

Reader when did he buy the handguns before or after his 21st birthday?
If before then you can contact the FFL (gun dealer) and have the records checked. Handguns you have to be 21 .....shotgun or rifle is 18
This is in NC but you can check your state. In regards to buying from a "friend"
8.If I buy a handgun from an individual whom I have known for a number of years and who does not have a criminal record, do I still need a permit?

Answer:Yes. General Statute 14-402 does not make any exception for the receipt or purchase of a handgun from a private individual as opposed to a firearms dealer. Therefore, a permit is necessary before the transfer of any handgun.

Here's a question-do they teach hunter safety in the western states-I'm serious-my Dad was a small arms instructor and if he saw how most Americans handle guns he'd turn over in his grave. I've never seen why a 12 year old in South Dakota would have a loaded .357 hanging from his bedpost-I'm not into banning guns but there's gotta be a happy medium with have every gun in the house with a live round chambered-I'm betting more people are killed by gun accidents in the west than by crime. I've been in too many friends houses where that was the case down there to believe it's not the norm. I know I've been in some deals up here if there were a bunch of handguns around things might of got messy.

yes, hunter safety classes are offered in the US, and encouraged.

And yes, more people are killed accidentally with unloaded guns than loaded ones...if you get my drift.

YOU CANNOT BE TOO CAREFUL!!!!! JUST CANNOT!
