What are young bred cows (3 and 4) bringing in Canada right now? I saw some advertised here in the states and was wondering if they are way out of line.
Not a lot of those trading right now - at least by public auction. We're just finishing the grassers and heading into the calves. Around here (SW Sask / SE Alberta), we see bred sales later in Nov through to mid-Dec. We're sitting on a top-cut of bred heifers ... we haven't priced them yet :?
I would expect good young breds to be $2500 and up. Heard of one guy that has his calves contracted for mid-October in the $1500 range and cows are sold to leave shortly after. I've spoken with several guys in their 50's-70's who are planing to call it quits this fall while prices are so high. One guy told me today he's had enough so the cows are going and he's taking the wife on a cruise.
