I would hope that if this happen in Canada our PM would have the good sense to stay out of the case an allow the Province that it happen in handle the case in a respectable manner and not make it into a POLITICAL RACIST CIRCUS.

Yes, Zimmerman would be in big trouble if this happened in Canada. I'd guess he'd be sentenced to 20 years but be out in 7 or 8, but that's just me surmising.
I haven't commented on this case before this. I think it's sad that 2 young people handled themselves poorly and now one is dead and another's life will never be the same whatever happens from here on.
I know one thing. If I was approached by someone not in uniform that was being extra nosey and confrontational about my business I just may have at least tried to hand out a lickin' too. I've been in an altercation or two in my time and never felt the need to involve the use of deadly force. An old fella around here used to say "It's a pretty poor hide that won't take a tanning".
At any rate I wasn't there, and I suspect that none of us on this board were so all we can do is hope that justice prevails, whatever that is.

"It's a pretty poor hide that won't take a tanning".

I have been on both sides of a tanning,.. and one thing i distinctly remember is that I knew when I had kicked their @-- and they knew their @-- had been kicked.. so I stopped...

I also remember when my @ was kicked... and the fellow doing it stopped and asked if I had had enough...

I have never continued after a person started yelling for help or for me to stop...let alone not stopped when someone intervened and told us to stop...

but that decency is quickly becoming extinct in this country...

So at a certain point I am sure many of US will have to make the decision that Zimmerman made...

Zimmerman was not only yelling for help with Trayvon sitting on him but Trayvon supposedly told him he was going to die. So I betting not many on here would jump a guy and tell him he was going to DIE just because he was following him.

And according to the Defense Zimmerman didn't know where Trayvon was so how could he have still been FOLLOWING HIM. What happen in the 4 minutes that Trayvon did not use to GO HOME?

If this had happened in Canada the guy, Trayvon, that was using the sidewalk as a weapon would have killed Zimmerman the man getting his head bashed in as Zimmerman would not have had a gun to protect himself from the beating he was taken.

I didn't realize there was proof as to who was on whom and who was yelling for help.
Odds are good that in Canada the local yokel policeman wanna be wouldn't be carrying a gun, and therefore would have been more likely to follow the orders to not approach the suspect.
I've not taken a side in this, just pondering things. I'd like to think the jury did the right thing with the evidence they had. Hopefully the Martin family comes to terms with all this as well as possible, and hopefully the Zimmerman kid learned something.

at least one witness testified that he saw Trayvon 'throwing blows MMA style down"... and that the person one the bottom was yelling for help. which he identified as Zimmerman

another realized the size difference changed her perspective as she thought Trayvon was the twelve year old that the media had shown pictures of,.. overall most witnesses helped the defense.

local yokel policeman wanna be

that assumption/accusation was dis-proven as well... Zimmerman wanted to be a lawyer and a prosecutor.. at least according to those who knew him and his black law professor..

and as far as I remember wanting to be a policeman, fireman or soldier is still considered admirable.

You've taken that out of context. My point was he was being far more proactive than the job of Neighbourhood Watch calls for, and appeared to have made up his mind that Mr. Martin was guilty of something and he was just the guy to bring him in. And you don't ever try to make me out to have anything but the utmost respect for first responders of any kind, sir.

how else would you take " local yokel policeman wanna be ' ?

as for the rest,...

he was going to the store and saw a stoned young person with a hoodie in the rain looking in windows and lurking between houses.

in a neighborhood that had a rash of burglaries..

what else could he think? he called the police to say the guy was acting suspicious..

and when he looked at the person he ran...

as for facts.. Mr Martin was kicked out of school for having drugs.. burglary tools,. stolen jewelry/watches and vandalizing the school with graffiti..

sadly this is one of those if the shoe fits... examples.. we might not like it,.. but this "kid" was involved in alot more then getting skittles and ice tea... he had pictures of himself with pot plants and guns.. and was in several you-tube style fight videos..

oh.. about that TEA,... actually Arizona watermelon drank

Skittles, Arizona Watermelon, Cough Syrup = ‘Drank’ Or ‘Lean’

Skittles and iced tea = Purple Drank. Skittles and Arizona watermelon also makes something called "LEAN" which is a street way of getting high.

People go to the ER all the time asking for the cough syrup Promethiazine (robitussin) and they get it, go home, and make this stuff.

As I have said from the beginning. Trayvon should have just kept going, once he started running and went home. Instead he turned around and approached/confronted and assaulted Zimmerman.

Bad choice.

I would take it for what it is Steve, a local yokel pretending to be the real deal. I guess I should have spelled it out for you.

Like I said earlier, this was two young people that both handled themselves poorly in this situation, and one of them lost their life. That's a tragedy no matter how you cut it Steve. Is that plain and simple enough for you?
I'm done with this subject now, and will finish only by saying AGAIN that I hope and assume the jury got it right with the evidence they were given, according to the laws in their jurisdiction.

Very true. And how many times do you hear about thugs just pulling up and shooting into a crowd, or a house.

In this day and age, a fight is a fight. I'm going to assume you are trying to kill me until proven otherwise.

Our culture is on the decline.

I guess since the rest of us can't form an opinion because we weren't there, you must have been? You formed an opinion that both handled themselves poorly?

I guess if Zimmerman had died from one head slam to the concrete just a little too hard, then he would have handled himself in the right manner?

Your logic is a little soft.

I've not taken a side in this, just pondering things. I'd like to think the jury did the right thing with the evidence they had. Hopefully the Martin family comes to terms with all this as well as possible, and hopefully the Zimmerman kid learned something.

There was an eye witness to Trayvon sitting on Zimmerman and there was forensic evidence that proved it was Zimmerman that was on his back in the wet grass. As for the yelling there was at least 7 witnesses that testified the yelling was George's voice including his law enforcement relative, his Mother, friends and co-workers. Yes Trayvon's mother and brother said it was Trayvon yelling BUT Trayvon's own father said he could not say for sure the yelling was coming from his son. So I think it was pretty well established who was on top, who was doing the yelling and who the aggressor was by looking at Zimmerman's injuries. And to claim he was an UNARMED CHILD, like O'mara said it was disgusting as Trayvon used his fists and the concrete sideway as his weapons and I think we all know people have been killed by fists before, then add a slab of concrete to the equation and you have a very dangerous combo to the guy on the bottom of that fight. Trayvon would be alive tonight if HE HAD TAKEN THAT 4 MINUTES AND WALKED HOME BUT HE DIDN'T. He lurked in the dark, jumped out, and attacked a person he considered to be a CREEPY AZZ WHITE CRACKER Who happen to have a legally concealed gun. Trayvon, with his own actions, gave a neighborhood watchman with a gun, according to the testifying Use of Force Expert, a picture book example of BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT FOR USE OF FORCE TO PROTECT HIS LIFE. And since the jury came back with a NOT GUILTY verdict I'd say they didn't buy the Prosecutor's claims of a young unarmed CHILD just minding his own business and walking home with an ice tea and Skittles for his little brother. And I doubt they believe the picture the mother released to the media to garner support for a case against the big bad adult that murdered her little boy.

Personally I remember seeing that little boy picture of Trayvon and Zimmerman's picture when this story first hit the media and I thought WTH was going on that a little boy like that was shot. When the true recent pictures of Trayvon started coming out it was a bit upsetting to find out that first released picture was a very old picture that did not show the truth about the so called victim. The media and family were playing tricks to say the least. Then when it came out MSNBC edited the tape to try push a story of racism that put another nail in the coffin for their story's credibility. First the editing and then claiming it was a White on Black racist crime was a lie. Zimmerman looks about as WHITE as Obama does. But to push a story about a Hispanic on Black crime didn't have the same punch as a WHITE ON BLACK story. This whole story was a sham to push a racist agenda and it was not the Hispanic or White that was doing the pushing.

I feel sorry for the Martin family as nobody should have to bury a child but Trayvon was not innocent in what happen to him. There was a woman on TV tonight that said if that was her son she would tell him to do the same thing as Trayvon did as in stand up for himself. Look at watch her attitude cost the Martin family. Trayvon did not stand up for himself he attacked a neighborhood watchman that was not breaking any laws by investigating a person that was acting strange in his neighborhood, all he had to do is keep walking and get home but he didn't do that.

I've always been hung up on the fact that the kid walked 3 miles to get candy and this is glossed over by all reporters.

What kid in our lazy society is going to walk 3 blocks for candy and some Tea?

What kid drinks tea?

There has to be something very powerful about the "candy" for them to walk that far. I've seen a few dope heads do some crazy stuff to get a high.

Doesn't take much common sense to put this all together. Dope head check. Thug check. Thinks he is a bada** check. Burgler check. Did he make a fatal move check.

How many future lives did Zimmerman save that night?

You have to wonder if all those upstanding citizens that were walking down the streets and protesting carrying cans of ice tea and bags of skittles knew those two ingredents are used by CHILDREN like Trayvon to GET HIGH? :?

Those two items and their use by Teenagers makes why the Prosecution did not want Trayvon's toxicology report entered into evidence explainable now does it.

HISTORY OF DRUG USE AND THOSE TWO ITEMS CHANGES THE STORY A BIT.
