Hope you all get better there Katrina- I've been pretty lucky- everybody else has been sick, but I haven't got it...Must be since I follow Haymakers Quacks advice   - altho Friday I attended a funeral of a long time pioneer and the wake afterward had me moving a little slow on Saturday morning- probably had enough "medicine" to keep the bugs away for the week :D ......

I've been trying to shake a bad cold for over two weeks now. Most days I'm good, but going on towards evening and first thing in the morning, I feel like someone's punched me in the ribs because the coughing just goes on and on. Hope you feel better soon. The having no energy sure makes doing chores a real bitch.

LOTS OF FLUIDS....LOTS OF REST AND MAYBE A TRIP TO THE DOC!! However, if it is something VIRAL, then antibiotics will not help much!! Anti-virals work well on influenza if caught in the first 24-48 hours!! If it is bacterial (such as MR's pneumonia), then you and your family must be seen!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take care and get the rest you need.....i know...."easier said than done" :(

There is some awful stuff that made the rounds here and it lasted and lasted and when you thought you were over it, it came back.

I never got it, but I do have a nagging little cough. Doesn't amount to much but sure is irritating. My husband had a bad cough and didn't feel good for quite awhile. He finally went to the doctor who said it was allergies. Yeah, right!!! Gave him some allergy medicine instead of the Z-pac so it did no good. So I called to get the Z-Pac and they wanted to see him again; wouldn't just prescribe the antibiotic. To heck with that, if they can't get it right the first time, why go back? I mean this stuff is going around or I wouldn't feel quite so fustrated with the doctor and his allergy medicine.

It finally wore itself out, because he is okay now.

Ranchwife. How do we know if it's viral or bacteria?? I can see how the young and old could get this and die. It's nasty..... Thanks to all for the advice.........

about the only way is to see the doctor and they will probably order some lab tests!! Make sure you have a list of questions and all of your symptoms before you go in...this will save you alot of wasted time!! Let the doc know if you have a loose cough and what color the "yuk" is you are coughing up (often, sputum of color signifies bacterial..but no always....brown or rust colored sputum is "bad")...if and when you have been running a fever...anyone else who is sick that you have been in contact with and if they sought help...changes in appetite...any unusual aches and pains such as in the flank area (kidneys) or in the limbs (arms and legs)....make sure they know of any over the counter meds you have been taking such as tylenol or ibuprofen and whether or not they worked for you....let them know your own personal medical history such as frequent bronchitis, asthma, copd, diabetes, hypertension, etc! If you have had other confirmed cases of influenza in your area, they may order a nasal swab (I know...ewwww) to confirm influenza in you and your family....if it has been less than 48 hours since onset of symptoms, then they may start you on an antiviral...if, however, the fever is really high and you are dehydrated, the best course would probably be an overnight stay in the hospital to rehydrate you!! Please, make sure you and your loved ones are drinking plenty of fluids (no, cowboyup.....coors light does not qualify as a fluid)....water, gatorade or powerade.....even if your appetite is gone and you just cannot handle the thought of food, make sure you are drinking!!! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!! Sure hope you all pull through this without too much difficulty!! :!: :!:

For all those with that bad cough ask your doctor if they make up a cough syrup from promethazine with codiene or its called phenergan with codiene. They do that around here and it is great. It has a sedative property to it and will help you sleep also.

Katrina, sorry to hear you are dragging around with this lousy bug. Those who've had it around here say exactly the same thing, it goes on and on. So try not to rush it- your body knows what's best.
