Say what you like about Barack Obama, but the man has some brilliant ideas. To help fund his $1 trillion overhaul of the US healthcare system, for example, he wants to tax vanity. Obama's allies have proposed a 10 per cent levy on every plastic surgery procedure (if not medically necessary). Last year, Americans spent $10.3 billion having their noses whittled, their breasts enlarged, their fat sucked out and their bald spots covered in regimented lines of hair that make a man look like an overgrown teddy bear.

Obama's already got his taxing claws into it.
What's next, a levy on haircuts? If you choose not to ever get a haircut again, will the Fed. Government receive more or less tax dollars?
