Cal,
I love your first calf heifers. Those are the type I continually strive for and am getting more and more every year. Keep up the good work!

Boy, how times have changed! I guess I haven't been out to your place for awhile. I remember when your Dad's herd was red. Same quality though. Those big Simy cross steers were as good as they come. Good job, Cal.

Cal did you happen to weigh the big calf? Looks as big as a 4 wheeler.
No, didn't weigh him. What's the rule of thumb regarding calf weight and circumference above the front hoof? I'm gonna geuss him around.....maybe 130. Too darn big.

Cal, you gotta do the "compare" weight method... Compare to the dogs in the house.... Never forget the time I mentioned to my wife about the real big calf we had out of that Maine cow.. I mean I was talking about how heavy it wasm it dragged me across the pasture it was so big... She asked me how much I thought it weighed... Oh... a little more than you honey...   I got a bit of an evil look for that one, lol... But she eventually laughed and said, aint no way that calf weighs as much as I do (She was 8+ months pregnant at the time)... I am lucky she knew I was just having some fun with her..

I have decided that is not the most scientific method so we started weighing a random sample just to get an idea of where we were with a hanging scale and I weighed the ones we had to pull just to get an idea what the difference was....

132# bull calf will have a 22 centimeter hoof circumference at the hair line.
