With Friends Like These, It's Tough to Believe In Change
NY Post ^ | Last updated: 1:57 am | Charles Hurt

WASHINGTON - So, this is Change We Can Believe In?

It's more like the same old change we've heard jingling in the pockets of politicians since the beginning of time. And it's the same dirty change that has landed the bums in jail since the beginning of democracy.

Barack Obama hasn't even made history yet by getting into the White House, but he's already making history for the number of serious scandals between his election and his inauguration.

First, it was Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Obama's old pal and political ally. Now New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson - Obama's pick for commerce secretary - bails out amid a grand jury investigation into how a major political donor snared a lucrative contract from the state.

At this rate, Obama will be lucky to have any friends left after his first 100 days in office.

And what about all the grand promises Obama made after his election about meticulously fly-specking every one of the people he plans to put in his administration to avoid improprieties or even the appearance of them?

They vetted Richardson and didn't smell this little federal investigation?

So let's just put him in charge of the nation's economy. That's not a very important position.

Obama ran for president and won handily on the promise that he is a new kind of politician, carrying a voice directly from the people. And he promised an open and honest government. People gave Obama the benefit of the doubt and decided not to hang the words and deeds of others on him.

But at some point, it all becomes much more serious. It becomes the grave issue of judgment and knowing whom you can trust. Obama has allowed himself to be surrounded by some seriously flawed people.

Open and Honest? I can hear him now, "We're going to be looking in to that....."

This is the man who has expressed opposition to Constitutional Amendments but he is about to take an oath to defend them. Interesting indeed.

There has been some serious humor about it all already. Will he place his hand upon a Koran when he takes the oath? :D Does he have to keep him promise to infadels? :D

If someone asked him if he was going to do a New Years resolution to become a straight up person, his reply would be, "I am going to look in to that........"

I don't remember any of the late ones like GW and Clinton-- but I remember Ike did and so did JFK...It has kind of been traditional attire...

OT ought to like him since he's got "bar" in his first name.

The Dixie folks should like him because he's got "bama" in his last name.

The Cajuns should like him because he's got "seine" in his middle name.

What's the problem?

Can we stick to politics please?

But wasn't it you that said we have actually just have a one-party system in a recent post? That kind of puts us all on the same page doesn't it?

I said that our two parties are so similar that it makes me laugh that we're threatening to tear each other limb from limb over so little :) Mostly I said that having faced death and loss, I don't personally understand the heights of emotionality on the board about politics. I also said and no one responded that all the doom and gloom is out of proportion considering what a comfortable and safe world we live in compared to 10, 30, 50, 100, 500 years ago.

Thank you for the clarification. If anyone implies the old, "If you can't beat them, join 'em" mentality, my response would be I want in the back of the line of the folks about to jump off the cliff. I promise not to push anyone or tear anyone limb from limb. But I aint jumping. Some just want to beat everyone into submission it seems.

I had ancestors fight in all these historical wars simply to give me the rights I enjoy today. Yes indeed it has made it a safer world. When the rights these folks fought for are compromised or threatened, I stand to say brave men didn't die for nothing. If I stand by and let the Constitution or the Amendments thereto be compromised, what kind of person would I be?

Liberal in itself is not a bad word. I can agree with the Libertarian Party on some of their platform. But the definition of liberal has been changed pretty much as the term Gay has changed to to a different meaning than what it used to be.

Change in itself is not bad either. If you never changed a flat where would you be at times? My children changed me. Other things have changed me too.

Moral decay within society bothers me. Parties that support moral decay bother me too. These things do not bother me nearly as bad as politicians wanting to take away my rights, under the laws and Constitution.

Most everyone knows I supported McCain and would again today if this was the day to vote. Yet I can still laugh when a DJ on the radio says McCain looks just like the turtle on the kid's movie, "Over the Hedge". That was funny even tho likely demeaning.

This is simply a forum of political views and this forum has nothing to do with my real circle of influence. Likely I don't take the things spoken here as serious as you do.

But I am willing to lay my life on the line to defend the constitution, just like my ancestors did, to ensure my descendants have the same rights I have enjoyed. I am very serious about that. I have had a very good life.

It is always best to seek first to understand. I can tell you that I will never understand how someone can follow a lying cheat. There are folks in this forum who have views that can never be understood. There are folks who simply enjoy pulling chains and dumping salt in the wounds. There are also some very good folks that I can agree to disagree with.
