REPUBLICAN INCUMBENTS NEARLY UNBEATABLE IN 2010, SAYS TOP POLITICAL ANALYST

NBC News political analyst Charlie Cook, the editor and publisher of “The Cook Political Report", appeared recently on MSNBC's "Hardball" with Chris Matthews, and shared his outlook for the upcoming 2010 elections in November. Along with Cook were other political talking heads who basically confirmed Cook's assumption that 2010 is shaping up to be a very tough year for Democrats and a potential banner year for the minority party, the Republicans. Things could change, obviously, but the excerpts of the conversation between Matthews and Cook are a bit of an eye-opener if you're a Democrat, and encouraging if you're a Republican.
Remember, it was only a few months ago that pundits were writing about the death of the Republican Party.

For example, Leslie Savan wrote in The Nation in May of 2009: "What sort of psychological bent would lead people to want to be part of a dead-end political party like the GOP has become?"

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Can a Republican lose this year coming up? Can a Republican incumbent lose any race anywhere next year?

CHARLIE COOK: I would not be surprised to see no Republican incumbent, House or Senate, lose.

Matthew's asked Cook about the prospects of Arlen Specter, the eighty year-old Senator from Pennsylvania, who started out a Democrat, switched to being a Republican, and last year switched back to being a Democrat. Specter is being challenged by Pat Toomey.

CHARLIE COOK: Arlen Specter... is going to be in serious, serious, serious trouble here.

Notice the the triple usage of the word, "serious"!

Matthews, who worked in Jimmy Carter's administration, moved on to inquire about the prospects for Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT). For the second year in a row, Dodd made the list of Judicial Watch's Top Ten Most Corrupt Politicians List:

MATTHEWS: How does Dodd make up for the fact that people, even Connecticut people, are ripped at Wall Street?

COOK: That‘s not his problem.

MATTHEWS: That‘s not his problem?

COOK: His problem is being a Democrat. His problem is being Chris Dodd.

OUCH!

Geez I wish I would have seen that interview. But then I would have had to watch "A tingle up my leg Matthews". Gag me with a spoon. But to see the Democratic media spokesmen being told his party is in trouble would have been almost worth it.
