Chasing cows with Aussies

RSL

Well-known member
We had a couple of Aussies come by with some young horses that needed some work. They are supposed to have 70 ready to go for a horse sale next month. We were finding/bringing cows home 5 miles so we could do some pre-weaning vaccination booster shots.
Grass (the legal kind) but not quite as good as usual

When you said Aussies I was hoping to see some dogs. :(

I took a run north with the Pathfinder and the dogs and came across 30 hd of PB pairs that were in 8 sections, they we close to the corner they needed to be so the dogs and I moved them one pasture closer to home. Worked pretty slick and the dogs were working good today. :D

no dogs. I think there is a sale in Stettler next month (maybe this month now).
They currently work for a fellow named Larry Chick at Alliance. They are pretty good cowboys, no hurry but in the right place when they need to be.
The only dog around is our Aussie/Collie cross but she is too little for this kind of trip just yet. We could have used a few dogs the next day...

RSL - What sale are they riding horses for?

BMR - What kinda dogs you got?

I have 2 that are supposed to be border collie. The one is a Tri colored male from Peter Gonnet's line that is registered and the other a red and white male that crossed the border. He doesn't like collie but he is a pretty good dog. Better then the papered one.

RSL..."no hurry but in the right place when they need to be. "

Very short definition of what a good hand is, for sure.

Interesting, RSL. Thanks.
Looks like nice horses they got going. I wish them good luck at the sale.

that is due to being an Aussie. He is used to riding on an Australian Stock Saddle with no horn and his legs tucked up under the bucking rolls.

Dad's saddle is a Billy Cook. He got it as a well deserved treat to himself a few years ago from Pierceland. It is pretty fancy for our place, but it is nowhere near as comfortable as the well worn 1950s vintage Frank Eamor hand me down I was riding.
