Page 56 of the new ABS catalogue has a red angus bull on the bottom that some others besides me really like-nice to see a bull pleasing to the eye that has E.P.D's that suit. On page 52 is one of the sorriest looking black angus bulls I've seen in a LONG time-why they imported that thing all the way from Australia is beyond me-enough feed he might look good as an adult but he doesn't do much for me right now.

Would you like to see some daughters that are destined for the ND Red Select Sale?

Isn't that Black something? (I'm shaking my head too.)

Thank you very much NR! I had to track down an ABS catalog to figure out who you were talking about!

Cheers---

Of course we'd like to see some daughters-I'd like to thank ABS for picking that black bull-it makes selling for Genex that much easier. My daughter has a little herd of red cows were going to use your bull on next year.

Here are a couple of daughters...we clipped them up a little right before taking the pictures. They've been weaned a couple of weeks here.

OT:

The Angus bull is Admiral:

The Red Angus bull is BHR Golden Boy:

We too had to track down a catalog as we typically look stuff online.

Again, thanks for the complement, Northern.

Just think of the nice red baldy calves they'd raise if you usaed the right Horned Hereford bull on them lol. Pretty sweet females.

I'd say you are probably right, why don't you give 'er a try?

Thanks TTB-- You guys are right-- that is a nice looking red bull--and that Aussie bull doesn't even look like a steer that would feed out good....

I'm not a Future Direction fan anyway--but this one takes the "all leg" to a new height...

Future Direction AND New Design? Did you really think you could like that cross????? I say RUN...

Nice bull, TTB, but I liked him from the start.

I hate the phenotype of that BA bull but he would most likely be one of the best terminal angus bulls you could use on you cows FH. He is not a bull you would want to keep any heifers out of, but if you are finishing cattle he will work better than most Angus bulls.

I'm not sure why anyone needs to import an Australian bull that's a Future Direction out of an 036 cow. Am I missing something, or is this not a real unique set of bloodlines here the states?

Maybe it was I'll take one of yours if you take one of mine deals between A'I studs. I have a fair amount of Future Direction semen if anybody cares to dare lol. They are just a bit too frail-I flushed him to an old direct Premier Independance daughter but I couldn't bear to run the bull calf I got-so I tested his carcass qualites as a steer-something Admiral probably should of been. As far as a terminal bull to run on Angus cows they go by the name Charolais,Simmental Gelbvieh etc. When a breed trys to please everybody they usually end up doing a poor job of pleasing anybody eventually.

Maybe, but here is my opinion....There are enough great bulls that we can make other choices. I tend to go NR's way on a terminal cross......

So true. I totally agree. I can sorta see Andy's point, though. If you're looking at some seriously high marbling cattle to sell on a grid, the Future Direction x 036 sire on an Angus cow would sure get that done. Probably considered "terminal" from the standpoint that you wouldn't necessarily think this breeding to create any significant replacement females. With an eye toward balance, I'd prefer the growthier options (like Northern's suggestions) with some selection pressure on marbling at the same time. Call that "Super-Terminal". This would be a retained-ownership, feed 'em out and get the best of performance and carcass kind of a deal.

I guess our situation is differnt than most. We are selecting bulls for the COW side. "Terminal" just doesn't fit our program. Period. We've been doing what we need to do with straight-bred moderate Angus bulls.
The steer calves sell really well and do well for the feeder. Of course they go into a restaurant niche market...

Everyone has their own program and I respect that very much.
Straight-bred Angus of the right type is our program.
036's, New Designs, just don't cut it for us. Too many problems
on the cow side.

If we wanted to crossbreed, we'd most likely use a Horned Hereford bull.
I'll mention again, RED ANGUS are my favorite breed, but we don't have any.
