Oh oh, we got a political strategy against a better strategist!

How's he going to argue against transparency?

Cheney Calls for Legal Memos to be Declassified
Mon Apr 20 2009 16:20:53 ET

In a two part interview airing tonight and tomorrow night on FOX News Channel’s Hannity (9-10PM ET), former Vice President Dick Cheney shared his thoughts on the CIA memos that were recently declassified and also revealed his request to the CIA to declassify additional memos that confirm the success of the Bush administration’s interrogation tactics:

CHENEY:

“One of the things that I find a little bit disturbing about this recent disclosure is they put out the legal memos, the memos that the CIA got from the Office of Legal Counsel, but they didn't put out the memos that showed the success of the effort. And there are reports that show specifically what we gained as a result of this activity. They have not been declassified.”

“I formally asked that they be declassified now. I haven't announced this up until now, I haven't talked about it, but I know specifically of reports that I read, that I saw that lay out what we learned through the interrogation process and what the consequences were for the country.”

“And I've now formally asked the CIA to take steps to declassify those memos so we can lay them out there and the American people have a chance to see what we obtained and what we learned and how good the intelligence was, as well as to see this debate over the legal opinions.”

So then all this rightwing ranting and whining about the release of the memos endangering the country and the security was all a facade-eh :???:

Or would old Darth want to further endanger the security of the country.. :???:

Truly, I think he's playing a tit for tat game, which is also political. Which runs the risk of endangering the National Security.

But he's using Obama's reasoning and posturing to do it!

Obama will wonder which corner he's backing himself into next time!

The terrorists already know which techniques worked! Their buddies were already rounded up because of them!

It's the American public that has been in the dark!

You can't have it both ways-- yesterday the rightwingers were screaming that the release of just the authorization memos was going to cause disaster that would bring down the country

BUT BUT BUT

today- Cheney wants even more- including the info gained released too...Reports he before even refused to give the Congressional Intelligence Committees....

So which way is it :???:

Some of us do believe Obama took a risk.

Cheney has no doubt done some risk/reward type of thinking and feels that it is less risk to expose Obama.

Obama has already increased the risk, now Cheney will increase the benefit side of the ledger to the American people by exposing Obama's political motivations.

The true fallacy in this argument is the use of the term "Torture".

Torture could be anything from depriving a prisoner of cigarettes or beer, to whipping a prisoner with chains..........and all in between...........

To gather info that could result in saving innocent lives would be just short of be-heading him to me.

How many of these "Torture" victims have been physically maimed like their victims were?

I think if any of our loved ones were killed by these murderous thugs, we'd all be for this so-called torture.

Not sure if that is the reason...I just heard on TV that the Congressional Intelligence Committee had asked for those memos and are going to start to hold the closed door hearings they've wanted to for so long on the effectiveness of those torture methods--but that Bush/Cheney refused to release even to them- citing security reasons...
Cheny might get his chance to go testify-- if he don't waffle out again--with his excuse he's above all Courts and Congress and he didn't have to answer to anyone in government....

if a person believes that beheading another person "sends a message" or believes killing women and children is fine and dandy, because they are infedels, then in my opinion there is no such thing as torture to these people....

"What makes the United States special ... is precisely the fact that we are willing to uphold our values and our ideals even when it's hard, not just when it's easy, even when we are afraid and under threat, not just when it's expedient to do so," he said.

Although abiding by the rule of law can make battling groups such as al Qaeda more difficult, he added, it is ultimately why "we'll defeat our enemies. We're on the better side of history."

I guess if you leave a caterpillar long enough, it may chew through a throat, not sure.

Me, I know that the US military will not go as far as drowning me now (it's in the memos), so I'm not afraid of waterboarding.

I might even turn it around on them and see how many times they will give me a bath, and deprive them of their beauty sleep.

No, he's just saying that Obama needs to tell the whole damn story. The only reason Dear Leader is releasing the notes is a "Look at me, ain't I great" moment (something narcissists are prone to do). Cheney is making the bet that when people know the whole story they won't be saying "Aren't you great, Obama", they'll be saying "What a dumb bastard you are, Obama".

My money is on Cheney on this one.

How about if you waterboard someone to the edge of death or they pass out 183 times in 1 month :???: Is that torture... :???:

No wonder the FBI wouldn't let their folks get involved even tho Cheney had granted them Immunity before the Act (which doesn't exist under any US law or the Constitution)...

A foreign national being elected President isn't in the Constitution, either. As a matter of fact......

Don't know of any that have...Those set up by the Constitution to decide their qualifications- the electors- have decided for 200+ years that all meet the Constitutional Qualifications....

But back to the issue-- why would you go granting immunity before the fact (essentially telling people its OK to break the law)-unless you knew that what those people were going to be doing was illegal :???:

Our government... teaches the whole people by its example. If the government becomes the lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy.

OT, "Don't know of any that have...Those set up by the Constitution to decide their qualifications- the electors- have decided for 200+ years that all meet the Constitutional Qualifications.... "

How many of those electors even knew Obama was hiding his birth certificate and of the number that did and wanted to check on his qualifications, how many were allowed to see it?

Why doesn't that crooked bastard just show it instead of spending thousands to keep it hidden?

The problem with Toturing these enemies is nothing really gets accomplished...These people will strap bombs onto themselves and die....One needs to find what most matters to these terriosts...I think the best thing to do is,beat them unconscienc then load them up with a computer chip and follow them around through satilte coverage . .........then after you learn a thing or two, take them out by detinating the chip....Its kinda far fetched but it serves a better purpose, then toturing those who think dieing is a special event........and no need to house and feed them..If it is removed incorrectly it goes off...

I think those out to harm should be dealt with, swiftly and with out hesitation..Unless you can learn something first..Then when donewith them, turn out the lights and go to sleep a little more peacefully....

According to reports 5 heads of the CIA, 4 former and the present head, said those were TOP SECRET documents and by releasing them Obama was putting national security in danger. But he did it anyway. The man is sick.

That said, Obama has already told the enemy what they need to know so they can train their guys to withstand anything the US will be allowed to use, so what is the harm in telling the US citizens the results of those actions? What would it harm if the US citizens knew that the Bush administration foiled 6 or 7 terrorist attacks because of the information they got out of the terrorists? From what I see the only thing it may do is put a more favorable light on Bush. Goodness knows Obama wouldn't want that as somebody might then realize he is not as great of leader as he thinks he is!!!!!

I figure Obama is going to go down in history one of two ways either the worst president in US history or the first Dictator in US history.

People want to see term limits on Congress, I fear Obama will get this Democrat lead Congress to not only throw that idea out but the idea of the President's term limits out too. Just like his buddy Chavez did.
