Chris Christie signs 10 out of 15 gun laws
while the title of most seem like common sense,.. the devil is in the details..
Why is it that the title of a bill is all a liberal reads? and then decides we are irrational when we oppose the bill?
One bars gun purchases by people on the federal terrorism watch-list; the other makes it mandatory for the state to submit information on people who are banned from gun ownership to a national database.
Several of the remaining bills on Christie’s desk put the governor in a tight spot, politically.
One bill passed by the state Senate, S.2737, would institute background checks for all private gun sales and require all prospective gun owners to attend a gun safety training class.
Another would ban a model of .50 caliber rifle, the most powerful rifle available to civilians.
Christie has not tipped his hand as to whether he will sign or veto the other five bills, which include an outright ban on the sale of the highest caliber rifle currently available to civilians.
the Sweeney ‘kitchen sink’ bill that attacks gun rights and does nothing to prevent crime; a ban on $10,000 rifles used by wealthy hobbyists; and a bill that would mandate that the state police disclose law enforcement data in violation of federal law.”
"These common-sense measures will both strengthen New Jersey's already tough gun laws and upgrade penalties for those who commit gun crimes and violate gun trafficking laws," said Christie, who is expected to easily win reelection this year.
Gun control supporters in New Jersey said the signings represented a step forward.

But some conservatives contend that, of late, Christie has been much too inclined to burnish his moderate credentials.
Signing Thursday's gun bills was one example.
while the title of most seem like common sense,.. the devil is in the details..
The state Senate today passed 10 gun control measures. The bill passed by a mostly party-line vote of 23-17, with most Democrats in favor and all Republicans opposed. Only one Democrat, state Sen. Jeff Van Drew, from Cape May County, voted against it.
While he expresses admiration for Senate President Steve Sweeney’s efforts to balance both sides of the gun control debate, Van Drew asserted his belief in the Second Amendment.
“I think it dates back to the founding of this country and I believe that the folks who legally own guns are genuinely and honestly are good and gentle, law-abiding citizens that aren’t bothering anybody, he said”
New Jersey has the second toughest gun safety laws in the country, and Van Drew says the solution to gun violence is not more laws.
He added that a review of states with more gun regulations did not translate to less crime, and that any new laws would not affect criminal behavior.
“Those folks that would break the law, they’re not worried about permits, they’re not worried about registering, they’re not worried about doing the right thing,” Van Drew argued. “These laws will only affect those who are already doing the right thing, those who are already just sportsman or competitors or hunters or collectors.”
Van Drew says he believes that the majority of his constituents support his position. “I understand the goal of the folks that want more regulation is good but the reality is that the gang bangers and the law breakers aren’t worried whether it’s one gun a month, they’re not worried whether there is a different system for registering, they’re not going to register, they’re not getting their guns that way. They’re getting them illegally.”
Senate Bill 2552 – Sponsored by state Senator Jeff Van Drew (D-1), SB 2552 protects individual gun owner information from public disclosure.
