Let me be clear. The violence in Anbar has gone down despite the surge, not because of the surge. The inability of American soldiers to protect these tribes from al-Qaida said to these tribes: we have to fight al-Qaida ourselves. It wasn't that the surge brought peace here; it was that the warlords took peace here, created a temporary peace here, and that is because there was no one else there protecting them.

Yep-- I was getting quite skeptical about Iraq- and who to believe- and have lost all credibility with GW  -- but last night I watched the debates, and watched a war hero former POW Sen McCain look everyone in the eye and straight out say "THE SURGE IS WORKING- WE ARE WINNING" and I believed him...He says he has many contacts in Iraq (which I'm sure he does with his military past-Daddy was an Admiral) and that they say we are making great movement- even tho their government may not be.....

And he says that Iran is a major threat-is making a bomb- and cannot for any reason be allowed to have a bomb.....Whatever it takes they must be stopped...

Chuckie's right. Why else would we be giving arms to people who may turn on us at any time? Sunnis have been responsible for most of the American deaths in Iraq. Now we're rewarding them by giving them more weapons?

Even Petraeus says the Sunnis "can figure out who al-Qaida is a heck of a lot better than we can."

If the Iraqis can fight Al-Qaida better than we can, why are we there?

Anyone who thinks there will be no deaths ever in Iraq are fools.

We can't even keep our own people here from killing each other.

Looks like they are well on their way progressing to a "democratic" Government    (at least Jersey style democrats)

Pleasantville board member James T. McCormick was charged with taking $3,500. After all, according to the complaint, he needed about $3,000 to renovate his basement so the Pleasantville Democratic Club had a place to hold meetings.

Political corruption is one of those ugly aspects of life in New Jersey.,... The criminal complaints against the 12 people arrested Thursday in New Jersey on federal corruption charges detailed what prosecutors describe as brazen greed even for a state infamous for corruption.,... "It's been six years doing this job, and I thought I could no longer be surprised by a combination of brazenness, arrogance and stupidity," U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie said. "But the people elected in this state continue to defy description."

Soon after the press conference,. U.S attorney Christie was met by several men in a large black SUV in the parking garage, and offered him a NJ street deal, a free one way trip to the meadowland, for a goal post seat next to "jimmy".. ,..or a few bucks to "just make this thing go away"....

Official Announcement:Today, the people of Iraq announced the changing of its National emblem to a CONDOM because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed!

You're right. I made a mess of that last post. Lets try again. Here's what I should have quoted.

You stated that chuckie is right. In your calling him correct, are you referring to the derogatory remarks he made about our military while they are on foreign soil fighting for our nation?

He said: "The inability of American soldiers to protect these tribes from al-Qaida said to these tribes..."

Proof that he was right is that the Sheik who put together the anti-al Qaida group in Anbar was murdered. We can't protect Iraqis from al Qaida or the Sunnis from the Shiites or the Kurds from the Sunnis or any of the above. The Iraqis have to come together and do it themselves. That's not happening in Anbar. The Sunnis have come together, but they haven't come together with the Shiites or the Kurds. They're lining up to take the US dollar. The arms they're being given or buying with US money may well be aimed at US soldiers next week.
