Not only did we get a new bell and bell tower....but the whole interior of the church has been redone over the last couple months. Tomorrow will be the first services in about a month. It's not all totally finished yet...but it's close enough.

I truely thought I had a before picture...but can't find one. This one is after they took the old false ceiling out....and put new bracin up which was to level the ceiling. It has a pretty good sag but to fix that would mean totally taking the roof off the church.

Here's how it looks today......

Squirrels had reaked havok with the wiring of this old church. It's really a miracle that it hadn't burnt down because of them. There were holes chewed in the wall insulation board stuff like crazy. They found this here lil guy.....still had the wires in his mouth......
We nick named him "The squirrel of Christmas Past" or "Fried n Mummified"

Pretty spiffy. :D :D :D

We had our White gift service tonight with a pot luck before the service. I can't remember when we had as many little kids in church. Really great to see. :D :D

This lil Church was rolled on logs to town when the railroad came thru and the town was formed in the early 1900s. It sat outside of town at another small community where the cemetary is. It was about 5 miles out.

White Gift Sunday – a Special Advent Sunday Before Christmas

White Gift Sunday - a Sunday Before Christmas - Egahen
Many Protestant churches celebrate White Gift Sunday, often on the third week of Advent. It is a time to be generous to the community in a practical way.

White Gift Sunday represents the spirit of Christian charity at Christmas, but can demonstrate a much more personal and thoughtful giving than simply writing a check.

There are different ways to celebrate this special Advent Sunday, but each one of them is based on the message of love at Christmas. And, each variation provides opportunity for everyone to participate, from the youngest Sunday school child to the seniors in the congregation.
History of White Gift Sunday

The Presbyterian Church resource files credit the beginning of White Gift Sunday to the wife of a Methodist minister in 1904 in Ohio. She knew the legend of the Chinese people who loved their king so much that they each brought him a gift on his birthday. The gifts were all wrapped in white paper in order to emphasize the love of the people and the intent of the gift, not the size or value of it.

Ours happened to fall on the Second Sunday of Advent. I remember as a kid we usually wrapped the gift in white paper. I think sometimes it was even a can of food. This year the gifts were going to a women's shelter. Usually something nice for a child that wouldn't be getting anything else for Christmas.

That sounds like a neat thing to do. I may mention it at Church and see if we can get somethin like that goin. If not this year...then hopefully next year.

We usually take up a collection of can goods and stuff and box that up for several of our needy familys in the community. Anything from Christmas dinner makings to coats and blankets.

Lily the Church building is beautiful and I'm sure it's warm and loving when filled with the folks. You guys did an awesome job. Always like to see folks keep the old, fix it up and use it instead of tearing down and coming in with teh modern stuff... Is it a Methodist Church?? Looks like one inside.

Yes it's Methodist. I too like fixin up the old instead of tearin down and buildin new.

New stuff just don't hold the warmth/atmosphere that them old buildings do.

We still have stuff to do. Some paint retouching, finish put on the lower wood. I have the job of redoing all the names on the stained glass windows. Each window was paid for by members of the church years ago.....one window was paid for by faculty from the school. But the names are coming off so I have been nominated to repaint them. But I'm thinking the vinyl stickers would be a whole lot neater and look better.
