Cleaning up the 4H mess

The local 4H needed some place to get rid of "manure"

One of my son's landlords allowed them to dump it on his property.

This "manure" was probably 5% or less manure and about 90% sawdust and 5% trash and boards etc.

We left it lay for 3 years so that it would get a good start breaking down - - - if not the wood will rob nitrogen from the soil as it breaks down. We are not accepting any more.

We really did not need a $150,000.00 tractor to pull this little spreader but it is the only tractor with a cab we have that has a 540 RPM PTO and the high today was +18F so it was the logical choice.

When we got to the field the tractor showed 4.8 hours on it - - - the first 6 hours of it's usful life was spreading sawdust!

Guess it has to get dirty sometime!

The inside of the pile was still steaming - - - I would guess over +100F - - - I thought it would have quit being hot by now but I guess not!

I guess bragging as before last week the newest tractor we had was a 1989

Brandon did well enought selling seed that the corporation gave him 3 years use of a brand new tractor - - - he spent about a month deciding on what he wanted - - - then it took another month to get it.

Sold one of the 4650s and got almost twice what we paid for it 5 years ago - - - but it was in much better shape than when we got it.
