Clintons Shot Down

January 4, 2008 -- DES MOINES, Iowa - Awaiting her coronation here last night, Hillary Rodham Clinton instead faced a seething revolt within her own party.

More than 70 percent of Iowa Democrats rejected her bid to get back into the White House.

And so, after 15 years of domination, the Clinton dynasty has finally lost its grip on the Democratic Party.

More than anything else, Clinton's campaign was built upon the aura of inevitability.

That's now shattered and left in Iowa's frozen cornfields.

What's devastating to her is that she lost so badly to such a political novice.

Sure, Barack Obama is an incredibly impressive and appealing figure. He has magically turned the nasty politics of race on its head here in a state with a less than 3 percent black population.

His hopeful determination to end the sordid politics that the Clintons are such masters of has even lifelong Republicans eager to vote for him.

Still, Obama has four years less experience in the Senate than Clinton.

And he didn't spend eight years in the White House as first lady like she did. He hasn't met one-tenth of the world leaders that she's met. Whatever.

Adding insult to Clinton's real campaign injury is that she also lost to John Edwards, a retread loser from four years ago running a nasty class-warfare campaign that ultimately won't do any better this time than it did last time.

It's certainly conceivable that Clinton can go on to stage a dramatic comeback in New Hampshire just as her husband did in 1992, forever billing him the "Comeback Kid." She maintains a solid lead there.

But the same dynamics that worked in Iowa are now at work in New Hampshire.

Carrying high the flag of "change," Obama will again attract all those people who are just sick and tired everybody in Washington. Add to the mix that Clinton goes there as a fallen star and Obama goes there as a rock star.

The problem with caressing the jewels of the crown before the coronation is that it's really embarrassing when it turns out that the coronation goes to someone else.

Clinton's invincibility has turned into inadequacy. She stumbled from Almighty to also-ran.

The only question that remains now is whether she will be able to recover enough to go on.

But does she really want to spend the rest of her viable political career on the national stage tearing down the man who is poised to become America's real first black president?

Mike if he stays away from the racists main stream blacks, he's got a shot at it. We may have a Dem President. I think most of the Dems know that if Hillary is on the ticket, its over for them.

If he has all those racists jump on his band wagon, its gonna hurt him. If he embraces Hillary in any way, he's through.

Powell could help him but he's republican.

I don't think we are ready for a black president yet. I'm predicting that he will get the Dem nomination and get beat in the general election.

Hillary will probably use her drug use allegations against Obama before she's booted and help to lower his confidence ratings to the general public.

The NY Times listed the demographics of the caucus voters and showed that a very, very high percentage of Hillary's voters are "older" "married" women. She got virtually no young voters.

Doesn't say much for that age womens decisions does it?

I also heard that the number one priority for voters was "values" too.

I think in BOTH parties, there is an "out with the old, in with the new" approach. people are tired of the entrenched Washington elite. now find a guy with a new fresh enthusiactic approach who will kick out all the lobbyists, and I would vote across party lines for him....

All the talk at the coffee shop is that GW might finally get his legacy-- "as the person that got the first black man elected President"....

As most agree with the way the Iowa primaries showed-- that the Republican party is still in disarray and has mostly only the status quo establishment candidates to offer while everyone wants some major change in the direction of this country....And most agree that Hillary is not the one offering that change--leaving only Osama and Edwards....
It also appears that many of the Independents and Reagan Democrats have lost faith in the Republican party.....

We must hang out at different places. We are definately in different locales. The only place I see such talk is on this forum, interviews with homeless poeple, and from the liberal media in general. Everyone I know, in the professional work place anyway, is scare to death of Pelosi and the demo party.

Those hollywood folks were suppose to leave the USA last time a Republican was elected. Doggone they didn't!

Most everyone I know is also taking the conservative aproach with investments as well. Had a guy in personnel tell me hundreds had rolled their IRAs over into savings - out of large equity funds etc. The Dems have definately put a scare into just about everyone who invests. It shows in the stock market. I have pulled mine.

If you didn't pull it months ago when all the signs were showing that GW was running the economy into the sewer, you may have lost a lot of money :???: ...The economy isn't tanking because of whats going to happen in the election-- its tanking because of what has been happening for the past 7 years.....Runaway Debt, Trade Deficits because of faulty trade agreements, and unfettered/unpoliced scandalous corrupt business activities have led to this recession/depression....

Montana is considered a Purple state-Many are liberal on some things- very conservative on others- and Libertarian on quite a few, believing the federal government should just keep their nose out of it....But the voters will go either way-- and a lot of the old Reagan Democrats/Independents are saying they probably go Democrat as they see no real savior type Republican candidate- and as many many say " None of the Dems can do any worse than GW has over the past 7 years" .....Hillary is not talked of too highly- but you even hear some say_ "she can't be any worse than GW"
