From a 40 year professor at West Virginia University in Morgantown. Clunker Math
Think of it this way: A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15 mpg uses 800 gallons of gas a year.. A vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25 mpg uses 480 gallons a year. So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year. They claim 700,000 vehicles so that's 224 million gallons saved per year. That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil. 5 million barrels is about 5 hours worth of US consumption. More importantly, 5 million barrels of oil at $70 per barrel costs about $350 million dollars So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $350 million. We spent $8.57 for every dollar we saved.
I'm sure they'll do an excellent job with our health care, too!.

All you need to look at to see how the Healthcare reform will work is MEDICARE, POST OFFICE, SOCIAL SECURITY.

What did the government esimate Medicare and Medicaid would cost and what did they ACTUALLY COST?
In 1967, the House Ways and Means Committee said the entire Medicare program would cost $12 billion in 1990. The actual cost in 1990 was $98 billion.

In 1987, Congress projected that Medicaid - the joint federal-state health care program for the poor - would make special relief payments to hospitals of less than $1 billion in 1992. Actual cost: $17 billion.

What happen to the money in the SS locked box ?
When revenues flow into the four Social Security and Medicare trust funds, the money is instantly handed over to the Treasury, which issues non-marketable long-term IOU's to the trust funds. These IOU's are listed as assets by the funds. But, through the wonders of government accounting, they are not listed as liabilities on the government's on-budget budget. They are liabilities only on the off-budget budget, which most Americans are unaware of

And what can you say about the Post Office :?
The General Accounting Office (GAO) has announced that the U.S. Postal Service is in danger of financial insolvency.

All Government run and all going BANKRUPT, and the DEMS are fighting to implement just another entitlement program that will have the same fate.

BTW anyone telling you you can insure 30 million more people without seeing a HUGH uptick in the deficit, is either braindead or simply lieing. My bet is nobody is that braindead so I have to believe they are lieing to you as they think you are to stupid to figure it out for yourself and will believe them while they serve you a nice tall glass of koolaid.
