Just like she did during the first half of the school year, first grader Coy Mathis wants to use the girls' restroom at her Colorado elementary school. But school officials won't let her.

The reason? Coy is transgendered, born with male sex organs but a child who identifies herself as female.

She has dressed as a girl for most of last year. And her passport and state-issued identification recognize her as female.

In December, the Fountain-Fort Carson School District informed Coy's parents that Coy would be barred from using the girls' restrooms at Eagleside Elementary in Fountain after winter break.

She could instead use the boys' bathroom, gender-neutral faculty bathrooms or the nurse's bathroom, the district said.

I'm actually shocked and amazed that she hasn't been given everything she wants.

Meanwhile...........

Coy's parents see it differently.

By forcing Coy to use a different bathroom than all the other girls, the school is "targeting her for stigma, bullying and harassment," Michael Silverman, one of Coy's lawyers and the executive director of the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund, said.

America has gone mad.

And I suppose for fun you pull the wings off butterflies and kick puppies too

I was actually hoping to get some comments on the political, legal and mental health ramifications of a child's parents exposing the child to such weighty matters as having a team of lawyers from the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund fight it out with the school board over where the child is allowed to pee.

As for your on-point question, I poison butterflies and drown puppies.

how and why at that age are parents confusing a kid on what sex he / she is ???

this boils down to bad parenting, in my opinion.

My thoughts were much the same. Why not allow the child to at least reach adolesence and then decide for himself if he really wants to act and dress like a female?

I'm glad this came up. I've known I was a transgender lesbian since I was 13. I don't see why I was treated unfairly. Non-transgender lesbians, and transgender straight individuals are allowed use of women's facilities and yet, just because I was a transgender lesbian, I've been denied. When will I get equal rights? Why should I be treated differently? I feel like a woman trapped in a man's body who likes women. Why should I have to hide that?

If I was younger, I would protest not being able to change in women's locker rooms. I think I might join a gym to advance my cause for others that share my pain.

I'm also working on a new social program. Its called: "That's not your body, you didn't create it." No person is ever born without help from a mom, a dad, and generally doctors and nurses to make sure pregnancy is going ok, a doctor and nurses to deliver. Then to grow and be healthy, you have farmers who produce food, teachers who teach about health, and coaches who train. Others helped you do it.

The follow up program will be, "What gives you the right to limit my sexual freedom?". There comes a time when, you've been selfish enough with your body. It's really not just your body. The new gun control measures should really help with this. This spills over into the last phase of: "Give your fair share".

If the feelings are natural, it must mean they are inherently good.

I'm sure Colon is on board with this, since she likes this type of communal mentality of personal property. And what's more personal than this?

Why not just build a third bathroom and put on the door 'INCLUSIVE RESTROOM'.

With a sign below that saying 'CAUTION: GANG TOILETY IN PROGRESS'.
