Hey Haymaker- I just got home from spending part of the afternoon at the ASCS office- and the temp is minus 32 with about a 10 mph north wind... They are predicting temps down around 50 Below up here tonight- which to me is colder than even a three dog night...

Send up a couple of those "stocky" Senorita's you and Elmo have been sporting around... :p

Yeap....sposta be a big rain along with that cold front here. So we spent the afternoon puttin out hay for the cows, hauled water for the bulls, and cut some firewood to burn thru the next few days. It was shirt sleeve weather here today. Sure hate to see it get as cold as predicted, cuz we got some green tint to the grass already.

Temp at the house has been holding at minus 40 all morning so far...Weather bureau in town is reporting minus 38 and 56 Below Chill factor....

Ice crystals are just suspended frozen in the air... I don't think I'll even try to feed until afternoon.....Sure glad I rolled them all out some extra yesterday...

Weather folks say this extreme cold that is right over us will start moving into SD this afternoon... Only forecasting 20 Below for tonight...

got a good fire goin about daybreak and heard a helluva roarin, had a chimney fire that burnt itself out in a few minutes,I been buyin those logs you buy at the general store thats suposed to keep the creosote build up outa your chimney, evidently they dont work real good.
I built this old house so i know how the chimney is built but its getting old like everything else around here now.
Anyone ever have a chimney fire,Im thinkin mine outa be good for another few years now that it burnt the creosote out.
good luck

I was just watching the Weather Channel- and the blizzard they were getting in some areas- even Oklahoma City...

Sure glad thats missing us...Finally got up to 27 Below by noon- and I went out and rolled the old girls a few bales...Hydraulics on the Besler a little stiff- but didn't break any hoses... And actually it feels pretty nice out- sunshine and NO WIND... Feels nicer than what some of those folks are getting with all that wind.....

They are predicting now- that depending upon how fast the Chinook can move the cold out- by Thursday/Friday- the Milk/Missouri River valleys could be 40 ABOVE... :D

That would be a change of 80 degrees.....

Yeap HayMaker we had a chiminey fire just a couple weeks ago. skeered the bejiggers outta me. Looked out the window and you'da swore there was a drillin rig flarin right somewhere close. Flames shootin up outta there 3 or 4 feet from the top of the chiminy. So...we had the water hoses out....sprayin the roof.....till it burnt itself out. Should be clean as a whistle now LOL Mr Lilly had gotten up there with the chiminy sweep that afternoon. He musta knocked a bunch of it loose or somethin...so it caught fire real quick when the fire got goin good inside. Hope we don't hafta do that no more.

Hay Maker, we haven't had a chimney fire for quite a few years now. But the last time that it happened, we came home from town one day and saw black specks all over the snow in the yard. Finally figured out that the chimney burned itself clean while we were away. Scary stuff.

the worst chimney fire i,ve seen was about 30 years ago it lit up the hill back of the old house for hours, looked like a gas well burning off flames were 10 feet high or more.i had plane tickets to california and suitcase in the pickup as i was leaving on holidays the next day leaving the folks to look after their cows. oh how things have CHANGED.......... :?
