TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- Three Alabama football players were arrested Monday and charged with second-degree robbery while another was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card.
Freshman linebacker Tyler Hayes, 18, freshman safety Eddie Williams, 20, redshirt freshman D.J. Pettway, 20, were each charged with two counts of second-degree robbery while redshirt freshman H-back Brent Calloway, 20, was charged with one count of fraudulent use of a credit card.

Williams, who was also charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, was arrested Sunday on a separate gun charge.

The players have been suspended indefinitely, Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a university statement.

"The young men charged are indefinitely suspended as we continue to gather information and talk to the appropriate people," Saban said. "The University and football program have strict guidelines regarding issues of this magnitude. This behavior is unacceptable for any student-athlete at the University of Alabama and not representative of our football program."

According to arrest warrants (PDF), Pettway, Williams and Hayes attacked and robbed two UA students, Samuel Jurgens and Caleb Paul.

The trio is accused of physically attacking Jurgens with “punches to the head and face” and kicks to the ribs and back and stealing his backpack, which contained an Apple MacBook Pro. Jurgens was knocked unconscious and was treated for several cuts, a mild concussion and severe swelling.

Both Hayes and Williams confessed to committing the crime, according to the arrest warrant.

In a separate incident, Williams physically attacked Paul with “punches to the head and face” while Hayes and Pettway waited in a car “with knowledge of Williams’ intent.” Williams came away with Paul’s wallet, which contained cash, a UA student action card and various credit and debit cards.

Williams later used Paul’s UA card and debit card to purchase snacks from a vending machine on the first floor of Bryant Hall.

With knowledge that it was stolen, Calloway, who was not involved in the robberies, admitted to using Paul’s UA card for numerous purchases.

Calloway acknowledged the incident in a reply to one of his followers on Twitter.

"first it wasn't a credit card and 2 I wasn't even awake during the robbery you don't kno what happened so dont try me dude," Calloway wrote.
UAPD received reports of the two robberies early Monday. The first happened around 12:35 a.m. in the 800 block of Campus Drive and the second happened around 1:20 a.m. in the 200 block of Seventh Avenue, UA spokeswoman Cathy Andreen said in a statement Tuesday morning.

UA police posted an advisory Monday on the UAPD website about the robberies with details and descriptions of two suspects. An update followed that said police had arrested four suspects in those robberies.

UAPD identified the suspects in their ensuing investigation and arrested Williams, Hayes, Pettway and Calloway Monday night.

Williams, a former five-star recruit from Panama City, Fla., did not play in 2012.

Hayes, a Thomasville native, played in 13 games as a reserve and had 14 tackles.
Pettway (Pensacola, Fla.) redshirted the 2011 season before playing a prominent role as a pass-rushing defensive end in 2012. He had four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks this past season.

This is Calloway's second arrest since he signed with Alabama in 2011. The former Russellville standout was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana in Oct. 2011. After redshirting his first season at Alabama, Calloway played primarily on special teams in 2012.

"This is a very serious matter and we are very disappointed in the actions that have resulted in the charges against these student-athletes," Alabama athletic director Mal Moore said in a university statement. "In this type of situation, the Athletics Department works in conjunction with the University. We will have more to say at the appropriate time."

They sound just right for K State. Maybe Snyder can get 'em in Manhattan and instill those "family values" in 'em like he was gonna do to Jamone Boyd.

D.J. Pettway, was the one they signed out of high school that could run the 40 in 4.10 seconds with a flatscreen under one arm and a watermelon under the other. Add a couple of hubcaps and he can probably break 4.00.

KSU is a sound institution with a man leading the program that is very good at turning troubled youth into fine young men. the fact that Husker fans are so caught up with running down KSU proves the fact that they are jealous of the former doormat of the big 8.... I bet the mighty huskers are so upset to see their team slipping into a yearly battle for 5th place in the Big 10, that all they can do is look at KSU and say, we used to kill you guys, ...reality must be a bitch for husker fans.... but from my perspective, it is sweet justice.

Age and getting old is a consequence of time. It happens to everyone.

Don't try to change it. You can't.
