Colorado Storm

Here in Colorado it really let us have it up close to the mountains. Some places are reporting 40" of snow. My guess is that we have about 36" here where we live.

It started snowing yesterday morning early and is still at it. It should abate around noon and the dig-out begins.

Everything here is shut down. Fortunately, not too much wind so it isn't drifted badly, and today, no wind at all.

At the ranch, we only had 5" - thank goodness. An early blizzard in October of 1997 cost us abougt 25 head of cattle. Total losses in the area were 30,000 head of cattle.

Don't think we lost any out of this - and we don't have any livestock in the winter where we live.

Bing Crosby would like this!! White Christmas, indeed.

I was just watching the Weather Channel-- Sounds like Denver and everything east of the divide are really getting it...Even Haymakers "hill country" is getting some rain...There is another storm moving in from the Pacific- but they think it will also go south of us up here...Looks like this El Nino pattern of the moisture and storms going south could be setting up..Doesn't hurt my feelings any because all the draws and coulees in my pasture area are already blew full of snow.....

Maybe this will take care of some of the souths drought problems... I was at a 2500 head bred cow sale the other day and was talking to a couple buyers that are friends of mine....At this sale they are usually buying a lot of cattle to go into southern Montana, Wyo, SD, Neb, and even some to Colorado-- they said this year they already have all the few orders they had filled and not one single order for bred cows for there....
