Commercial Angus Heifer

Here's a commercial Angus heifer for you to critique. She's got a little something else in her, possibly Limo, but it is a long ways back. Her grand dam was a horned black cow, her mama is Angus sired and she is also Angus sired. Don't ask any questions on breeding, I only know about her mama's sire.

She is fairly small framed, and that almost got her culled, but I like the way she looks, so we are going to give her a chance. Also, not the greatest performance, acceptable, but not great. So, we will see. She is bred back to Red Angus.

Helluva heifer Randi, looks just like my black TarentaiseXGallowayXAngus cross replacements. As for performance, I usually don't keep the biggest heifers. I pick the fleshiest, well-built, quietest that are just a hair behind the leaders of the pack for performance. JMO

I really like her from the flank forward, but from the picture she looks like she breaks her loin a bit ad appears short in her hooks and pins....but thats just one person's opinion on one day :)

She is isn't she, every time I see her, I like her more. As for performance, I have learned in the past what works here, and I think she should fit in. The top end of the heifer calves sometimes don't make great cows, sometimes they do, so usually we hang on to them, more often if they are out of a proven reliable cow or cow family. This one is really close to the bottom end of what we normally keep, but I have been surprised before, and she is out of a proven cow family.

Soap, I think, that she should indeed.

Yanuck, I'm quite sure she is far from perfect, but I think she will do as far as a decent commercial cow. I welcome everyone's opinion, helps me to teach my eye as well.
