Australian beef and lamb exports to the United States have soared, according to the latest figures from the US Agriculture Department.
Australian beef exports to the US topped 80 million pounds in November, up nearly five million pounds from October and almost 13 million from September.
World Agricultural Outlook Board chairman Gerald Bange says the figures are interesting.
"Whether or not the situation with regard to Australia is some sort of a permanent thing, of what that really reflects, we really don't know," he said.
"It could be just an ephemeral thing, but we have noticed the same thing, that there has, in fact, of late, been a very sharp increase in imports from Australia."
One USDA analysts suggests the drought may be forcing an increase in cattle slaughter.
Meanwhile, Australian lamb exports to the US passed 10 million pounds in November, up four million pounds in two months.
