Why will the SEC be the only conference to only play 8 conference games a year when all others will play 9?

Has to be that way for an equal "strength of conference schedule" across the board.

In other words, if the SEC teams played 9, there would only be SEC teams in the "Top 4" playoff contenders.

It would probably be more equal to the SEC teams if all the other conferences played 10 conference games each. But then finding 10 teams to even form a conference outside the SEC is a problem.

to set up this top 4 play of, I think it should be ONLY the conference CHAMPION that is invited to the 4 team play off.... if you are mighty Alabama, and lose in the conf. champ. game than tough luck, sit on the side lines and watch..... no way should two teams from one conference be in the mix, but we all KNOW that the $ec will find a way to get them in there....

What if it's a fluke how they lost jigs? I don't care to much for the sec. But to think only one team out of that conference can be in the top four teams in the country is just silly.

All joking aside, the SEC went even one better. The league mandated that each non-conference schedule include at least one game against a team from an "equity" conference -- the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-12.

Notre Dame belongs to the ACC in all sports except football. In that sport, they are Independent.
