Confused about Biden

I'm having a problem deciding how Joe Biden helps Obama's campaign.

First, his state only has two Electorial Votes. The Dems would get those anyway.

Second, apparently he only owns one house...and lives in it every day. That doesn't help Obama in keeping up with the McCains. If McCain picks Romney as his running mate, the house number will be way out of sight. :(

Then, of course, according to McCain and Obama, Biden is poor. He only made about $200,000 last year. He's probably one of the poorest Senators in the US Senate.

And, for goodness sake, he takes public transportation to work every day! Or did before the Secret Service started running his life.

He has had two wives, though. Oh, wait, the first one (along with his daughter) was killed in an auto accident. So I guess that doesn't help him any when you put him up against McCain leaving his crippled wife for the rich home wrecker young enough to be his daughter. Even worse, Biden describes his wife as "drop dead georgous" and actually mentions she has a PhD. Maybe there's a record somewhere of him asking her to stip to win him a few votes. We'll have to follow up on that one.

One son is a lobbyist. Looking better here. It probably doesn't match up with McCain's support for Georgia while one of his top advisors is a lobbyist for Georgia or having Phil Gramm as his chief economic advisor, but it's something. Could that be offset by the other Biden son currently in Iraq? Darn, I'll just have to keep looking. Surely there's some reason Obama chose him. :D

Actually, he's not currently serving in Iraq. What he's currently doing is serving as Delaware's Attorney General. But, supposedly, he'll be going to Iraq...sometime. Supposedly.

Guard unit of Sen. Biden's son is headed to Iraq

The Associated Press
7:03 PM EDT, August 20, 2008

WILMINGTON, Del. - A Delaware Army National Guard unit whose members include Attorney General Beau Biden will report next month for deployment to Iraq, officials said today.

An Oct. 3 departure ceremony is scheduled for the 261st Signal Brigade, which is based in Smyrna.

The brigade will travel to Fort Bliss, Texas, for training before being deployed to Iraq, where it is expected to remain for about a year, said Delaware National Guard spokesman Col. Len Gratteri.

The brigade will provide command, control and communications support for troops in Iraq.

Biden, son of U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden, serves with the brigade as a captain and a military lawyer in the Judge Advocate General's Corps.

A spokesman said the attorney general would not comment today on his pending deployment, but that he plans to outline at a later date how the Department of Justice will operate in his absence.

But I can see how you might be confused - since they've been talking about him going for over a year now - and he hasn't ever made it yet.

But I give a lot of credit to him for being willing to serve in the National Guard. Especially being a politician. Politician with a background of military service - that should make for an interesting future, huh?

So...the thing that he IS currently serving as is the Delaware Attorney General. Sort of an interesting bio - in a politically-connected-family kind of way.

==============================================

Joseph R. "Beau" Biden, III took office as Delaware's Attorney General in January 2007. As Attorney General he has taken active steps to enhance protections of children, families and communities across the state. Attorney General Biden created the Delaware Department of Justice Child Predator Unit to track and prosecute child sex offenders and help pass state legislation that strengthened Delaware's sex offender registry statute. He created a Family Division to focus law enforcement resources on fighting domestic violence, protecting Delaware's families, and reducing juvenile crime. He has initiated community prosecution in the City of Wilmington and expanded efforts to fight nuisance crimes in neighborhoods across the state.

Beau Biden's public service began at the United States Department of Justice in 1995. From 1995 to 1997 he served as a Counsel in the Office of Policy Development, working on a variety of legal and policy issues, including issues related to the Brady Law, the Violence Against Women Act, and missing and exploited children. General Biden served as a Federal Prosecutor in the United States Attorney's Office in Philadelphia from 1997 until 2002.

In 2001, General Biden served as Interim Legal Advisor for the United States Department of Justice in post-war Kosovo.

Beau Biden was engaged in private law practice from 2002 until his election as Attorney General.

General Biden serves as a Captain in the Delaware Army National Guard's Judge Advocate General's Corps and is assigned to the 261st Signal Brigade in Smyrna, Delaware.

Beau Biden is a graduate of Archmere Academy in Wilmington, Delaware, the University of Pennsylvania and Syracuse University College of Law. He was born and raised in Delaware and currently lives in Wilmington with his wife Hallie and their two children.

Notice that he started out his public lawyering career in the Clinton Justice Department. It will be interesting to see how that came about. I'm sure it was because he was the most qualified guy for the job.

Okay, so we have one son who is a Washington lobbyist/lawyer and one son who is a politician/lawyer who may or may not be going to Iraq and who served in the Clinton administration while his father was a sitting U.S. Senator and who probably got his current elected job because of the family name. Sounds like real "change" to me.

Biden won't help Obama, IMO, at least not enough to make a difference. Only Obama can do that. But he probably won't hurt him, either, and that is the number one criteria for a VP pick. A good, safe, pick from where I sit. I can live with Biden, but it won't be nearly enough to convince me to vote for Obama. We'll have to see how many others feel the same way.

Saw something to the effect that Obama needs votes from white males......so he chose one as VP.....sounds typical of a product of old style cronyism/Chicago politics. And some fools believe he will "change' politics for the better?????

The problem with Biden helping to get the "white male" vote is that most white males don't see gun and income confiscating E liberals as actually being male...IMO.
