Confused

I went and got some vaccine for our herd yesterday to get ready for branding in May.
I picked up Vista Once SQ and Vision 7.

Talked to my vet last night and he advised me that we should use Bovia Shield Gold 5 and a pasturella shot instead.
The Vista cost less and we don't have to round up again in 4-6 weeks.

Now I am getting confused on what to use.

We used Vista 5 SQ last year and a pasturella vaccine. Had no problems.
We lost 15 head last spring due to pasturella, so we have been vaccinating for it ever since.

Any thoughts?

I think I would follow my Vets recommendation. They go to Vet school for a reason.

One reason I can think of is; I believe (not 100% sure) Bovi Shield Gold 5 has a longer minimum duration of immunity than Vista 5 for type 1 and type 2 BVD as well as IBR. I would guess he is more concerned with the duration of immunity of the BVD/IBR complex than he is the bacterial complex (Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia spp.) Often times with respiratory infections, cattle are initially infected with a viral pathogen (IBR/BVD) and then the secondary bacterial infection moves in.

Check out the labels of both products...I think they should both have duration of immunity claims for all the pathogens the products claims to protect against.

If you are still concerned, why don't you ask your Vet why they recommended one versus the other? That is what I'd do.
