Constitutional Amendment Idea

Constitutional Amendment Idea

Just a thought off the top of my head; how about an amendment to Article I, Section 7 that reads:

"Before voting on any Bill, a Senator or Representative shall certify to the President of the Senate or Speaker of the House respectively that they have read the Bill in full."

Or something like that?

This is inspired by Tom Coburn pointing out that to read the porkulus bill in its entirety out aloud would take the Senate Clerk 31.5 hours. Yet this monstrosity is going to be foisted on the American public today. The contempt for the legislative process is shocking.

I am not for tampering with the consittution, but that one is worth it..

we need a few other amendments.. term limits for the senators and congress,..

even if they "rotate out" after two terms.. it would be better then what we have now..

Now I'm starting to think time in office for a Senator is too long, 6 years. We just re-elected Susan Collins, she has 6 years left, Snow has 4 more.

I watched the clip on foxnews.com of Glenn Beck on the O'Rielly Factor, Bill made the point that even if they had time they wouldn't have read it anyway.

Has anyone found Obama's quotes on transparency and how he said we were going to have a website where americans could read bills for 5 days before they were voted on?

Sunlight Before Signing: "Too often bills are rushed through Congress and to the president before the public has the opportunity to review them. As president, Obama will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days."

There is the difference- it IS an emergency- and even your past Champion said so

"Our entire economy is in danger," Bush said in a high-stakes address. "Without immediate action by Congress, America could slip into a financial panic. … More banks could fail, including some in your community."

The president warned that inaction could cause millions of layoffs, bank failures, business closures, lost retirement savings, more foreclosures, a further drying up of credit and "a long and painful recession." He added: "We must not let this happen."

Different deal entirely. Something had to done to the banks immediately.

I knew some liberal would call this an "Emergency".

If you got right down to it, ALL BILLS could be considered an emergency by someone.

Change? I want mine back..............

I don't buy the fact that this bill had to be passed less then 24 hours after it was given to the people. I don't buy the fact that if they waited until after the weekend it would be too late. What I do believe is that this will bring us one step closer to the possibilities in this so called C & R Document. If we get to the point where we can't afford the interest on our debt, the debt helt by China & Russia, and we cancel the said debt, it would cause a Conflict (the C), a very bad war. The other option is to tax the hell out of us to pay for our debt. This can result in the R, Revolution. Remember that the first revolution was about taxation without representation. I do NOT want that option. We'll just have to see where this takes us.
