I agree but as I listened to what they are discussing sounds like they are building in a lot of protections. Sorry that it changed topic when they went to commercial but they are coming back to it shortly . It's worth listening to. The Chicks on the Right will give it a real twist.

OUR VIEW: Constitutional convention would be a mess

The idea of a second constitutional convention for the United States has been percolating since the 19th century, and it’s not been associated with a single party or philosophy. Various groups, convinced that the founding fathers either didn’t get it right or didn’t act with sufficient clarity in 1787, have called for a re-do.

Most recently, legislatures in 20 states (including Alabama) have passed resolutions calling for a constitutional convention under Article 5 of the present document to pass a federal balanced budget amendment.

No such convention is currently scheduled. No such convention is likely to be scheduled for years, if not decades. That hasn’t stopped Republican legislators from trying to make sure Alabama is ready, should it happen at some point.

-----------------------
One can only imagine what a 21st-century constitutional convention would be like. This effort is being driven by conservatives, but does anyone think liberals wouldn’t be out, loud and in force, trying to get their ideas enacted? (Some Occupy Wall Street participants talked last year about a constitutional convention). The streets would be filled with advocates and protesters, the Twittersphere would implode and the media coverage would be proctological and endless. The results could rip the country apart, rather than producing a new governing document to unify it.

Yep be very careful what you wish for... It could be like opening a Pandora's box- with more bad prevailing then good...

I remember Montana's constitutional convention that was called in the 70's to bring our Constitution up to the times... And there were some very scarey ideas floating around Helena during and some overly progressive ideas (imo) that ended up in the Constitution... Ex- the way the new Constitution read on children's rights- and was being interpreted by some jurisdictions was that a parent could not even swat his kid on the arse for punishment...

An amendment can be adopted by the nation/states without calling a constitutional convention... The Amendment V method has never been used- and there are too many questions about how and what kind of changes would be allowed... Once the bag of cats is opened- it may be tough to get it closed...

Rewriting a document that has worked for over 225 years is not the way to go...

On the contrary if I understood what is going on. One of our ledgislators was on there and he explained that 100 state ledgislators /representatives have already met in Mt Vernon and it will be laid out with 1 vote / state and all proposed additions, changes, admendments, etc. will be laid out prior to even calling for the congress. The big hurdle is that the Senate could pull something in regards to adoption and could have to go to court to make it happen.
In addition if you look at how it was set up by the founders it appears that they were so intent on the States to control government that they thought this process would be used from time to time on a regular basis as they had such a mistrust of Federal Government.

I'm sure that most if not all never got to hear what was said by David Long but you can and it will explain better than I what has taken place and what they have in mind. It's well worth listening to. You can find it by going to the following link and listenting to the pod cast.
