Here we go, garden is like a jungle with Sunflowers, the melon plants have almost covered the black plastic. It's getting hard to find the ends of my soaker hoses to water the garden :?

WOW,beautiful garden Hanta...greg had to plow mine under, somehow we got infested with pig weed. So trying to get that all cleaned out....hmmm could it have been from the manure greg put in my garden this year,or our new second hand tiller, not sure but not happy either.

Isn't it exciting watching veggies burst into productive mode!? Your beautiful garden is proof you aren't just playing in the mud, Hanta.
What do you do with all the luffas when they arrive?

Bad news, one of the watermelons and one of the honey dews met their fate due to my own two hands. Terrible tragedy as I watched them dripping juice onto the kitchen floor. If only they could have lived out the rest of their natural lives quietly undisturbed in their garden of weedin, and lived on to replicate their own kind. NOT. man they are good, especially for breakfast.

Geez sw I thought you were going to tell us that there was to much gardening and not enough cooking. Hope the flys don't buzz around the front of your shirt where all that juice dripped.

nr, those luffas seem to be nothing but vine, her plan is to make up a bunch of sponges, you peel them and dry them i guess.
Katrina, Crenshaws are green melons that are orange on the inside and are alot like cantelope only more flavor. they get about 4-5 pounds big. We were told they are difficult to grow, they grow really good for us, they are just about ripe as are the cantelope. Once you have eaten vine ripened stuff, that junk in the store isn't very good at all. honeydews especially, better go change my shirt, that watermelon is really juicy.

It was probably the manure. It's happened to me before, too :(

They get pretty big (supposedly) when they are ripe, pick 'em and peel 'em and let them dry. They become luffa sponges. You can also eat them before they are mature... :???: don't know if I would want to :?

It's nice to have all the plants take over like that, less weeding :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

For supper last night sw and I made a yummy watermelon salsa. This was a new recipe, I think I would leave out the mint unless it was a fresh one. The salsa is a yummy hot/sweet that tastes pretty good on the side, or mixed up in taco salad. I'll bring up the fightless friday recipe thread and post the recipes on there. Give 'em a try they really are good :D

Never heard of watermelon salsa. LOL I'm not big on the fresh salsa so that prolly wouldn't go over well here anyway. Plus it'd be sweet. LOL Salsa at my house hasta be made from tomato's and HOT peppers. :D

I like my watermelons with a spoon and a salt shaker........layin on a section of news paper.

When we were kids, I guess because refridgerators weren't as big as they are now, and not everyone had an ice chest. When we'd get a watermelon, mom would lay a wet towel over it and point the old metal fan towards it, that way when we cut it in the evenin, it was cool.
Anyone else "cool" their watermelons like that?
