Cool Day for a Roundup...photo story 11 pics

Thanks for the great pictures, Jassy. They sure do tell an interesting story.

"Bama, we still have a few iron bridges like that in these parts, but they are getting fewer all the time. In fact, there is a big battle going on over one about 25 miles from here.

Because it is no longer in use, the municipality wants to tear it down for liability reasons but a lot of folks would like to see it stay for it's historical value. One they are gone, they're gone for good.

We had an old bridge like that torn down last year about 2 miles from the house, on the edge of our property... They replaced it with a modern one... MAde me sad as I always thought it was a special bridge, unique.. We still have afew old ones, some that were rotatable as they crossed a canal and others that are coverd bridges... Always neat...

Jassy, that is the neatest picture of the cows crossing the bridge! It looks like it needs to belong in a magazine or on a calendar. And I sure would like to see a closer-up picture of the roan calf, I've always been partial to roans. Oh yeah, and I like the one of Kurt, too.

You know, if all the great photos from everyone was somehow managed to be made into a calendar, I sure would be interested in getting one.

Jassy, that is an EXCELLENT idea. I wonder if Macon could get some made if we promised to buy them for everyone we know????

What do you all think? Could we swing it? At least we could find out
the cost.

What a great idea if we could get it to fly!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you could sell many calendars because so many are given away.

Find a corporate sponsor with a budget for advertising and approach them on footing the bill for the calendars. Vigortone might be a good start.

The printer in Pierre that prints all the sale catalogs would print them as cheaply as most anyone. They do a great job.

So get a price for us, Mike, since you must do business there.
There is an amount that is the most cost-efficient to buy of course.
Maybe we would need too many, but we won't know if we don't ask.
And color pictures are going to cost a lot, I'm sure.
If we get the prices then we just need to find sponsors.
With all of us here, we should be able to do that.

I took an old bridge like this one and moved it to a state park several years back. We went in a built a modern bridge and put the truss on top of the new one. Now when the Yankees come down for the winter and pay there dollar they think they are riding on an old bridge.
When we took the old bridge apart we had, it cleaned repaired and painted. It looked in mint condition when we put it back together.
When we tear down old structures, we often offer to give them away but nobody can afford to move and maintain them so they go to the scrap yard.
If you leave and old structures in place and just move the road over to a new bridge, somebody will still have to maintain the old structure. It becomes a safety hazard. So with old structures it is best to take them down as soon as they come out of service.
