Better you, than us........

It was a big rattler that chased us home from Roswell, back in 1990.....

We had 3 kittens, and they had him/her cornered by the front step......Hubby had just walked in the house from there. When he got it killed (blew its head off with the 12-guage) it was still 6' long, and as big around as a quart canning jar. That very afternoon, I called my dad, and said Bring the Trailer, we're moving home.......Hubby called the boss and quit his job there, and we were home 2 days later.

Have I ever mentioned, I HATE SNAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have lots of copperheads here too. Had one right beside the front door the other night when we came home. Only thing was, we all had somethin in our hands carryin groceries or somethin in the house, and our son went out one more trip, and found it.......was about 3 ft long, and about a foot away from where we'd all just walked right by.

Just the way a snake should look...laid our like that with holes in them. Sheeesh I hate snakes went to move a small galvanized water tank the other day, had rainwater in it, flipped it over to empty it and stepped right on a rubber snake

BTW we do have rattle snakes and garter snakes and bull snakes...the bull snakes supposedly control the rattle snakes but they coil up and buzz just like a rattle snake and I don't stick around to find out which it is

.410 shotgun was the demise of those reptiles!! Bless Mr. Mossberg!!!

My blue Heeler was diggin around he house platform. I just thought she'd cornered a mouse that was trying to eat her food...a common occurance. So when the heeler went to the other side I raised up the house to see. I came eye-eye with the BIG 42" snake. I slammed the house down....got the other dogs out of their lots and put them in the basement. Last thing I needed was a bit dog.

So I just stuck the .410 under the dog house and pulled the trigger. Lo and behold the big snake was there and another one. Shot it. Looked under the other dog house and sure enough...there was contestant #3! BOOM!

The only dog that smelled it was the Heeler. She's got quiet the nose! This AM she tackled a big raccoon in the creek! Water, mud and critters flew in all directions for a few minutes. I waded in and kicked them apart. No visible injuries to the dogs...but one pi$$ed off coon for sure!!!

It is storiies like this that make me feel blessed for the lack of poisones snakes in this county.... Used to be water snakes when it was wetland but thank god for the ACE back in the early 20th centurey for draining it all out..

Even still, a Fox snake or a garter or a corn will make me jump about 30 feet in the air...Don't see them often, maybe that is what makes me jump.

I have this 'mantra' for life

" If you have a hammer, a roll of 'duck' tape and a .410 shotgun you can RULE the world"

If whatever is broken...well that's what the hammer and tape are for....if it's beyond that...put it out it's misery..and that's where the .410 comes into play!!! This applies to animate and inanimate objects!!

Since we're on the subject of snakes (my least favorite subject), we found a HUGE bull snake coiled up underneath the stock trailer...snake was coiled and buzzing and buzzing and hissing...got a big stick and moved it far away from the houses....next day, guess what??? It was baaaaack - same place, got a big stick again and moved it... at least after the 2nd time it didn't come back...

We were picking asparagus at the river place, sw went to pick some under a tree, holy moly I've never heard such a long string of badwords coming from his mouth...  he ran into a bull snake all coiled up and buzzing and poised to strike   .

Geeez, I hate snakes
