We shipped the calves last friday, so took the mama cows back over to the leased place on tues. They didn't really want to go, but we got there :)

It was a chilly but pretty day

I wanted some pictures of the moonlit shadows but the camera batteries died. It was 2 hours after dark and 20 degrees when we got to the pickup and trailer. I had more pictures but narrowed it down to these

Whew, that is sure some steep country, Nicky. Our daughter got to
be friends with some folks from Oregon and the woman told her that
when she saw the riders on the ridge above the house, she knew
she had 2 hours to get the meal ready.

Cows look good. Like the picture of Mike talking to the dog!

Nicky, those are great pictures, your cows look like they summered well.......

What breed is Cotton? He looks an awfully lot like my old Beau dog, who was half and half pit bull and red heeler.......an awesome cowdog!

And in that kinda country (and even more so, in ours) a good dog is worth 5 or 6 cowboys horseback! Ya can't do without them!

WOW Nicky...I'd never get anything done if I lived in your country...I'd be taking pictures all the time! Some pretty country, and yet I know it's pretty challenging to raise cattle there. That steep trail probably is 10 times more steep than the picture showed...I just can't imagine it! I sure wouldn't take our Sandhill horses in that country...they'd be trippin over rocks not knowing what rocks were..lol Your'e alot braver than I am...I don't ride when it's that cold...lol Thanks for sharing...they're great. Keep em coming.

Thanks :)
Ranchy - we are real happy with how our cows summered. We had record high temps like most did but got a little spring rain that brought the grass, and the water held out better this summer than usual. We're especially pleased with how the 2 yr olds held their weight and did with their calves. Cotton is a McNab, we are real happy with him, he's only 6 months old and has amazing endurance. He's been going on all day rides for two months now. He's our first McNab and we're impressed so far :)

Jassy - I take alot of pictures too :) It's almost as addicting as this website! And yes, the trail is alot steeper than it looks :  The other day as we were going thru a real rocky area I said to Mike "you know they don't even shoe their horses in the Sandhills" But I've never been as cold as I was when I worked at Lakeside!!

Very nice pictures Nicky. I've noticed steep doesn't photo very good for me. I take some picures of what looks real steep with the eye but on the camera it's just flat looking. Yours looks very very steep. Nice scenery and cows. Neat operation.
