Nice, thick built cattle Dylan. Your country can't be too bad if you have cows getting that old.

If a cow is raised here they can produce calves into their mid to late teens. An old cow brought into this country won't have enough time to acclimate and are gone or dead within a year or two.

Thanks gcreekrch.
The grass is good when it grows and the few cows that get that old here are just darn good cows. :) :) :)

   yeah there are no shortage of rocks around here, that is what spared most of our native pasture from the plow. Most of the rocks aren't big enough to hide behind though.

The cattle are in "just right" condition, Dylan, despite the lack of rain. They are good ones.

Thank you Soapweed. A guy could get buy with a bit less condition on the mature cows if green grass was assured in May and June. Right now they are grazing what is mostly 2 year old stock piled native, 3.5 lbs pellets(cake)/day,and 9 lbs/day of a half green, half ripe, full of weeds, wheat crop salaveged from 60 miles south of here. Half the crop germinated then they got some late rain and the rest germinated and the weeds took off, tansy mustard, kochia, russian thistle, purselane, lambs quarters, and many I am not familiar with. Had the last two years not consumed the majority of our drought reserve I would just be supplementing our stock piled grass with the pellets(cake) given the current warm weather. We can only stretch our reserves so far, and its always a gamble as to how far to draw the account down, the way things are looking right now our account will be emptied in about 3 months.

My kind of cows Dylan. My bank account has about 3 months left too.

Per thank you.
Still time for things to change. The question you posed regarding a de-stocking plan is the most critical question to answer.

At least this business isn't boring. :D :D
