Notice all the houses in the background? For some reason that thought struck me, this morning.

The Big Boss watching a calf grafting. Finally got a big rain and lost the calf. Luckily we found a new one.

Be careful where you get those graft calves. I've lost 20 more to scours from dragging home one extra calf for one that lost one. I will never do it again money ahead to sell the cow and call it a day. I grafted one here last week but it was a twin from another cow. Your cows look good though.

Yup, great pictures of new and young life!!

I would echo Denny's words about being careful about bringing calves in. In my early days of livestock, one of my 24 cows lost a calf and the one I brought in to replace it cost me 12 more of my own due to scours. . . :( Just hit like a freight train.

I always like to pull a calf off an old cow to put on a young one, then sell the old cow in August. Best way to market culls, and saves a young cow too. Got your own raisin' without bringing in other calves. I usually have some older cows that should have gone, but pregged up early for that purpose.

Of coarse my wife always points out that that old rip that should have gone may end up going another round because I didn't need her calf.

I don't bring in calves anymore due to the risk of bringing in scours. The last thing I want is a calf from a sale barn. I still graft if I've got one to put on a cow.

I like your squeeze chute, I've got one just like it.
